Is it a must to schedule FP+ 60 days out?

I'll be at Disney in July and my FP+ window opens on Friday, May 9th. This is my first trip. I have not purchased tickets yet as 2 people in my group are unsure if they will be able to come. I'm purchasing the Armed Forces Salute tickets (which are non-refundable) and we are staying onsite for some of the time. One of the reasons I wanted to stay onsite is for the ability to reserve FP+ 60 days in advance. Now that my party is iffy, I'm wondering if it is completely necessary to schedule 60 days in advance or will I still get what I want by waiting a couple of weeks? I don't want to end up with tickets that won't be used and I'd rather get them all at the same time. We aren't seeing Anna and Elsa. My AK & EP day is July 8, July 9-10 MK and July 11 is EP/DHS. I'm planning on rope drop each day and FP+ for the late afternoon/evening. Thanks in advance!

If you're not trying for Anna & Elsa, you'd *probably* be okay. We're going in less than 2 weeks, and I'm still tweaking times and everything. I've been able to get pretty much whatever time I wanted for everything except A&E. The other question mark might be if you're trying for the mine train. Not sure what the availability is like for those. Also, I realize that we'll be there at a much less busy time than you will, so the overall demand will be lower.

Probably NOT, I follow the crowd calendar to decide what park to visit on which day. This has REALLY helped us in the past. 8th and 9th are best days for MK, says to avoid EP on the 11th.

When my kids were young it was so hard not to visit MK first, but after seeing the crowds, we started using the calendar and things worked out well most of the time.

We will be there the same time as you! Hope you have a wonderful time.

I am also going in July but I already have made some fast pass selections for 3 of us.My daughter and her boyfriend who is also using the armed forces ticket discount is not buying passes until they come so we can't make fast pass reservations for them without tickets.I will try when they come and hope for the best.

If you want 7DMT and Anna and Elsa, it is better to do those as soon as you can. For the rest, it doesn't seem to be a problem. I have changed and rescheduled quite a few FP's this weekend with no problems at all and that is for the week of July 4th

Thanks so much! Yes, we are going at a very busy time and that scares me as well. I'm glad you were able to get almost everything you wanted! Hopefully some for A&E will open up before you go. I do want the mine train and I do still have a couple of days to get my tickets so I'm hoping I'll know something very soon.

You're welcome! I do actually have a FP for them, I just can't move the time. We're pretty much "locked in" to that time for them while everything else is flexible. But, I feel lucky just to have one at all! Although people's reports of system glitches make me kind of scared that it will somehow go "poof" and then I'll have a major 7yo meltdown if we can't see them.

I'm worried about the mine train because I really want that one! The crowd calendars actually show the week I am going to more crowded than the week of the 4th. If it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't worry. I'm loving all of the planning with this but I'm a bit bummed that I don't have my party confirmed and that it must be done so far ahead of time.

We will be there at the same time! That's great. What are your park days? I used easy wdw too and I have EP on the 11th because I have an ADR at Akershus for lunch with the princesses. This is totally for me. Belle is my favorite so I want my photo with her. I'm not letting anyone else in the photo, LOL. I'm doing the morning at HS, hopping to EP for lunch only and then hopping back to HS. I want to see Beauty and the Beast Live and Fantasmic to end our trip!

I have seen some posts where people were able to copy FP+ to others in their party. I wonder if this can be done if you add more people to your party once they arrive. Part of me wants to just get tickets for the part of my group that knows they are going and then wait on the rest but then I don't want to have to go back to get the rest! I just want to make sure all of us will be able to do a few rides together. We don't have to be together the entire time. Oh well, I have 2 days to figure it out, LOL. Thanks!!

Sounds like fun
Sun, 6 HS
Mon 7 EP
Tues 8 MK
Wed 9 MK 1/2 day

Flex days, not sure on these, but have fastpasses in the parks below
Thur 10 (not sure may do water parks) have HS if not
Fri 11 AK (or water park)
Sat 12 AK (or water park) maybe a last night goodbye to MK
Sun 13 Sadly, return home

We love the Beauty and the Beast show too, sounds like fun at Akershus, we have maxed out our budget on Character meals already, that one is a little steep for all 4 of us. But would like to have my daughters 15 and 20 go, they would love it.

We are going to DH and EP those days too :) then we are doing AK on the 8 and MK on the 11. All my planning is starting to feel like it's for a real trip as we get closer.

I did something similar over Easter week, my sister and brother in law weren't sure how many days they were actually visiting parks vs relaxing. They started with a 3 day pass and we booked FP+ for them for just the 3 days they were sure they were going to a park with us and FP+ for the rest of us for all our park days. Later they decided on a 4th day, we added the day to the pass on the 2nd day and I was able to simply copy our FP+ selections to them via the app on my phone.

We did our FP+ @ 60 day mark and we were just there Easter Break. I think it's great that you can do FP+ in advance but what I didn't like was what if you had to change your plans once you were there? Like most people, we plan all our days out...what park we will be at, ADR's, rides, etc. But what if it rains on the day you planned to go to water park? I know it was a busy time, but chances of getting FP the day of due to schedule change is difficult. IMO, I'd rather do a little less planning and scheduling every minute of every day and do a little more relaxing and take each day as it comes.

As everyone else as said you're probably fine except for A&E and maybe 7DMT. That being said if it isn't going to cost any more I'd go ahead and break the ticket order up into 2 groups buy part of the tickets now and go ahead and make FP+ reservations for them. Then you if the others decide to come buy their tickets copy FP+ over that can but they won't ruin your plan since your not spending all your time together anyways.

I'm totally leaning in this direction at this point. I think this might be my best option. The cost will be the same. I was trying to save myself a return trip for more tickets but I want my 7DMT passes! Thank you!
