Hey. Coming over from the UK in 2012 with the standard dining plan.
I have noticed a lot of the menus only have one veggie option on them (something im not used to coming from the UK)

If i let the restaurant know im vegetarian when I make my bookings will there be more options available?

You can note on your restaurant reservations that you're a vegetarian. When you get to the venue you can ask the server if there are any other options than the ones already on the menu. Perhaps they'll be able to omit ingredients from some of the selections for you.

Generally, the sit-down restaurants are all well-prepared to serve vegetarians. It has seemed unlikely that when we've provided advance notice that we've received any additional choices beyond what would have been available anyway.

One of my "Disney kids" is vegetarian. On the two trips she was on we did not alert the restaurants ahead of time, except for the Hoop de Doo. And I don't know that we really needed to bother there since she was offered two choices when we were seated - a pasta dish and something that I can't remember. Everywhere else she had no problems finding acceptable vegetarian options. A vegan might have more trouble.

I let the restaurant know in advance if it's a meal that's served family style (ie Spirit of Aloha Luau, Hoop Dee Doo, Ohana, etc.). I'm sure I would be accommodated if I didn't note it beforehand, but I like to ensure that I won't be stuck paying a bunch of money for a salad and a couple side dishes.

Some places will simply make you a standard vegetarian dish (Ohana makes a great tofu/tempura veggies/rice dish), while sometimes you'll receive options (Hoop Dee Doo has always given me a few options when I've called on the phone). I kinda just roll with the punches as far as how each restaurant handles it.

I normally choose restaurants based on if I like their veggie dish. At many TS restaurants the chefs are happy to accommodate and prepare a special dish not on the menu with ingredients they have on hand - however, flexibility and capability depends on the chef. So, I would strongly suggest calling in advance if you plan to dine at a restaurant where you are hoping for something not on the menu.
