if I have a nut allergy. We have the dining plan booked right now but were thinking about trying to save some money. We were going to eat just 3 or 4 table service and then hit the counters for the rest. But I am concerned that I will not get true information re: ingred at the counters!

Any input would be great...thanks!

There is some information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about special diets/allergies in the post with links. There is also a link to a WDW email address for diet/allergy food in that thread.

The counter service restaurants have a book of items from what I have read. In some ways, you may get less chance of problem in a counter service because they only have access to the ingredients to make the items in their current menu.

I have a nut allergy and have not had problems at the counter service restaurants. One thing though, when we were there two years ago, Wolfgang Puck Cafe (Downtown Disney) had a peanut oil in a bunch of things, including the pizza crust. Don't know if that is still the case, but you'd want to ask. Also, I found the ingreidents at the MK/AK burger places to be pretty similar, but there's a wide range of ingredients at the Epcot world counters. You can check the ingredient lists at the cs places (if the counter employee doesn't know what you're talking about, the manager will).

Good luck!

We've done fine with CS places for the most part. I agree that Epcot is tricky (at the World Showcase - we avoid those but I have a 5 year old).

There is a binder of ALL the ingredients in ALL the foods you can ask for at the counter. However I found if the restaurant is busy it was impossible to get the binder until I actually got up to the counter ready to order. Then they hand you this H*U*G*E binder that weighs about 500lbs which would take you about a year to really read. You need to have something in mind you want to order. So you are standing there - trying to look up the chicken strips, fries, and pudding in this big book with all the people behind you cursing the day you were born cause you are holding up the line (I literally couldn't move out of the line - the way the que goes you are trapped). I REALLY didn't like looking at the binder - can you tell???? ;)

I haven't found a better way to get the binder - other than trying to go in the place where you want to eat at a time they aren't busy to look at it or if the parks aren't that busy to begin with. On the positive side I rarely found anything of concern. I suggest calling or emailing Brenda Bennet (contact info in the FAQ) and she will give you info on things to avoid.

TS can be easier than CS. Fo someone with multiple allergies I could not imagine trying to go through the binder every time - I'd be :faint:

I just skip the counter service- except for the hot dog place in MK. Otherwise we do TS. I don't want to read ingredients on vacation. I want to be able to say "allergic to diary, eggs, and peanuts" and be done with it.
