Is insurance a flat rate based on age?

I thought I saw somewhere that insurance was $49 for a child and $59 for an adult. When I called and asked about it. They told me it was $89 each. Is that right? If not then where should I call to get the best price?

It depends on what kind of insurance you're getting. If it's a whole package insurance that includes health, then age factors in to it. Some insurance companies also take age into account with cancellation only insurance.

Check online for comparison pricing - I like Travelguard, but others have recommended insuremytrip.com for comparison pricing.

If you are talking about the insurance offered through DCL, the price is based on the number of people in the stateroom. For a 7-night cruise, the first and second person in the stateroom (no matter their age) pay $99 per person for insurance. Any others in the stateroom pay $59 per person. The 4-night cruise is $59 per person for 1st & 2nd and $49 for everyone else. The 3-night cruise is $49 per person for 1st & 2nd and $39 for everyone else. Keep in mind that if you split your family between two staterooms, the first and second person in each stateroom pays the 1st and 2nd person price.

I don't know about insurance through other sources.

Thanks Kaa! That is what I thought, but when I asked my TA at expedia, I was given the price of $89 each by two different people. I told him what I had read about Disney's insurance and he said they were all the same. They took the total amount of your cruise and divided it between the amount of people. I think I'll just call DCL and get the insurance. I want to get insurance. I'm afraid something will happen if I don't.

I'd get the insurance. We used it our last cruise. This cruise, I've booked w/ insurance through DCL, but I"ll probably switch to direct with Access America once our flights are set. That will lower the price, and cover our pre-cruise Disney and flights (booked separately).

We are looking into going through an outside insurance copany rather than disney. We found it ends up being cheaper beacause you can insure your whole trip rather then just the cruise part and you can wait and see if you really want it as you get closer to your flight. You can ask your TA who theywould recommend.

Expedia told me I had to get my insurance with them, but I have heard that is not true. So I'm sure they will not recommend anyone else. I'm going to check with the companies you all have recommended.

Thanks
