Is Hotwire the Cheapest Rental Car Option?

We will need to rent either a premium, luxury, minivan or SUV for our trip in June. Hotwire is quoting us $31.95 a day and up assuming a weekly rate.

Are there cheaper rates out there somewhere? We will need a 1 week rental with at least 1500 miles allowed for the week.

THANKS!!

I have checked hotwire each time we rented a car. Every time I was able to get a better rate by using different codes from mousesavers. That said, 31.95 sounds like a good rate for a minivan, but it is hard to say without knowing when you are going and which type of car you priced. I think you can probably do better using a weekly rate with a discount.

I will be at WDW in June for 10 days.

I have a Full size booked with National using codes and Ent. coupon for $202 all taxes and fees included. Check out the transportation board or if you dont mind posting your dates, I be glad to run the numbers for you.

While hotwire offers some great deals, Thrifty was the cheapest for our upcoming trip. Total with tax and SAMS club discount is $180 for nine days in July.

Everybody else is pretty expensice for our dates, in the $340-350 dollar range with all taxes. I was able to get it down to $267 through National using the Carlson code. Waiting for my entertainment book to arrive. Might see if I can get National a bit lower with one of the coupons as they are my preferred car rental company and I am not so fond of Thrifty.

For now though, I really can't beat the Thrifty rate I have booked.

Thanks guys!

We are going from June 4-9 so we would need to pick up the car in Charleston, SC (airport code CHS) on June 3rd and return it on June 9th or 10th.

We are a family of 4 but my DH and I are VERY TALL and it is at least a 6 or 7 hour drive so we want to be comfortable. We have rented full size cars and been cramped so we prefer a minivan, SUV or a premium car (like a Marquis). Also we need 1500 miles at least to cover the trip and all the driving around we do in Orlando visiting friends.

We are Sams Club, AAA and Entertainment book members. We have always gotten cheap rates on Hotwire before but those just seemed higher than usual.

THANKS SO MUCH for any help!!! You guys are great!!

I used hotwire when we drove from Virginia to TX last November. If miles are a concern....remember hotwire is unlimited miles!

We might have found a rate that was close to hotwires quote but if we had to pay for mile then hotwire was an awesome deal.

We did rent a van too.

I don't know if you would like a mid-size SUV, but we rented one in March and although I am not tall my DH is and we found it comfortable. I checked on Budget b/c they are having a special internet deal for a mid-size SUV (Ford Escape). The price was $150 for your dates from Charlotte. A minivan was $220 for the same time. Make sure on Hotwire that you don't just compare the first price. Click to see the total price. For some reason when I compared our for our June trip even though the daily rate was the same for National vs. Hotwire, the final cost was higher. For some reason the total tax and fees were higher on Hotwire. I thought the insurance coverage was the same, but I must have been missing something somewhere.

Hotwire was the best deal for me! I got a mid-size car for 8 days for $130 total with taxes and fees. I played around on several websites with different discount combinations and never got lower than $180 until Hotwire.
