We're booked for Sept 2011 with an 83 year old and a 4 year old. If we have any hope of seeing Fantasmic, we're going to need the dinner package. I've been told not to book any Italian restaurants, so that leaves me with H&V.

Is it really that bad?

Thanks!
Deb

Yes...we have eaten here twice...and never again. Does your family not want Italian? Mama Melrose isn't too bad.

I ate dinner there in 2007 (twice, but on 2 different trips), and greatly enjoyed it both times. It's a buffet, so the food was of typical Disney buffet quality, ie tasty but not mind-blowing with a few stand out items. I would definitely go again, and I don't think you should worry. Enjoy it for what it is and don't over-stuff yourself!

sorry for those who think that is a bad buffet but for us is one of our favorites and everytime we visit DHS we try to lunch there, the food is good and different from others Disney buffets, We don´t like too much the characters at this place but the food and the restaurant is very good for us, hope that this opinion help in your decision and have a fantastic vacation:goodvibes

We have eaten breakfast there three times. To us, the food was like any other buffet in WDW.

Given your age variances - the one aspect we LOVE about H&V is the options. Most everyone can find something they'll like on the buffet. Our son basked in the glow of chicken nuggest and corn - while I enjoyed shrimp, prime rib, and the various salads! All were happy!! :-) and that's never bad!!:cool1:

There is no way we would ever eat at H&V again, the food was disgusting, the service was non existant and the restaurant was a mess.

We ate there for dinner once, and never will again. Everything on the buffet was dreadful. I ended up eating chicken nuggets and mac and cheese from the kids buffet for my meal.

Never again.

Any opinions on breakfast at H&V? We tried it for dinner last year and it promptly went on the never again list but we are hoping for better luck with breakfast.

None of us liked it, they cancelled Fantasmic due to rain. Had to wait 2 hrs to get a rain check for another date. As soon as we got back to WL kids wanted to
eat at WC or room service. They barely touch any of the food at H&V. To me everything offered tasted like wine, the beef, turkey and gravy. Never again. To pay for that and then get rained out. No thanks. September daily chance of rain
is 40-60%

Oh no, we were thinking of the Fantastic dinner package at Hollywood & Vine too. Interesting to see how varied the opinions are. Not sure what to do now???

A lot of restaurants are like that. Everyone has their own opinions on the food and the experience. The best thing is to try it for yourself.

We've never done dinner at H&V but we've done the breakfast and loved it.

We love Mama Melrose and 50's Prime Time Cafe. Both really good food and fun atmosphere.

I am curious why you've been told to stay away from the Italian place (Mama Melrose)?? We ate there this last trip for the first time and it wass really good. Had the flatbread chicken pizza and it was HUGE! Thank goodness DD and I decided to split it.

I am not a fan of H&V but I don't think it's any worse buffet food than Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's :confused3

I wanted to go and try it just because I heard such awful reviews. We are 2 adults with 2 kids and there are some pictures in my review below if you want to look.

My Dining Reviews - about half way down the page.

We are actually thinking about booking an ADR for lunch this time so the kids could see the characters. Not great or amazing food but it was decent and edible when we went. :)

H & V takes such a hit because it is more of a typical buffet than the more well themed places like Boma or Crystal Palace and some people just dont care for buffets all that much.

When we went the food was pretty good for dinner, but we also like buffets. If you wouldnt set foot in a Ryans or Country Buffet or Golden Corral (H & V is better than those) then there is nothing about H & V to make you forget your eating at a buffet unlike some of the other more imaginative places.

Actually, I liked it back in 2007 also. Have eaten there since then and didn't like it much at all.

Are there edible things on the buffet? yes. Will everyone in your party find something to eat? Probably.

Mama Melrose is better...but the service is sloooowwwwwww....

I have only been there for lunch and it was bad enough that I won't go back. I do like buffets in general but this was a very poor attempt. The best thing I had was the sandwich I made for myself...they had cold cuts, bread, veggies, and condiments for you to make your own. Maybe my expectations of Disney dining are too high, but I was very underwhelmed.

I have a friend who is going in December and doing the Fantasmic! dinner package. Hopefully, dinner is a better meal than lunch was.
