Where is it located in MGM? Anyone tried it? What are the buns?

I haven't heard of Herbie's Drive In at MGM ... there is the Sci-Fi ... and Herbie is IN the stunt show ... but anyone else know anything?

You know, I read another post a few days ago that said Herbies Drive in and I thought they meant the Sci Fi too.

I found the menu on All Ears too when I was looking at MGM. I don't remember it so it must be new. I wonder if it is near the Stunt Show?

This is the first I have heard of it! Thanks for sharing the information. Looks like something new to try next trip.

Here is the menu:

We were just there ... funny how you can miss things! I wonder if it's near the stunt show area? When we went to see Lights Motor Cars, etc. the Power Rangers were in the area and there was a crowd and commotion and the music, etc. so we could have missed it. Also, they were selling t-shirts and things on the "streets" and also had a band/vehicle that travelled around MGM which entertained people while they waited for rides, etc.

I haven't seen it (no trip since April '05 :guilty: ) but it was mentioned in the All Ears Newsletter from Jan. 24.

As described there, Herbie's is a white trailer near the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show.

Herbie's Drive In is a large outdoor cart located near the stunt show. It was added about 6 months ago.

You know, they should have hallowed out an old VW Bug and sold them out of the bug. That would have been cute!

Thanks for the info everyone.

Now has anyone tried these buns??? What are they like - little hamburger buns or something else?

I haven't been there yet, but it sounds like the type of dim sum (chinese "appetizers") which is really yummy and kid friendly. I buy a bag of the BBQ beef ones (frozen) at my local Safeway (called Cha Siu Bao). It takes just a minute in the microwave and my dh3 loves them and has enjoyed them since she began eating "real" food.

Here's a picture and recipe (so you can check out the ingredients).

We went to check it out when we were there last month, being hum bow fans. It was closed and the CM said that it had already been closed for some time and she didn't know if they planned to reopen. Not sure if that was accurate or not

THanks for the info everyone,

Thanks for suggesting the search function. I"ve been trying to do a search for days and I kept getting errors. It worked this time.

Here is a review I found:

Herbie Quick Foods Place.. (I can’t remember the name!)
There were three types of steamed buns offered: BBQ Pork, Chicken and Mushroom, and Vegetable Curry. You could get a sampler plate of all three, or buy them individually. Since neither SO or myself like mushrooms, we bought one BBQ Pork and one Vegetable Curry to split and try.

The buns are steamed dumpling style buns similar to what you’d find at Dim Sum. They were soft and chewy and I was impressed for them being fast food. The BBQ Pork was tender and flavorful, but the Vegetable Curry fell flat. Very disappointing for me as I am a curry fiend, but it was really lacking in any sort of strong flavor that made it appealing. Both buns were good to try, but overall I think they’re a bit too expensive for what you get. One bun was around a $1.75 and its about the size of a child’s palm.
