Is Goofy a dog?

Ok, my husband is driving me crazy with the eternal question of Is Goofy a dog? If so why does he walk upright and talk, while poor Pluto acts like a dog? I just roll my eyes at him, and say, They are just characters why do we need to analyze them? Please Help settle this discussion!! Thanks!

It says that his original name was "Dippy Dawg", so I would say yes. The website explains that Goofy was made as a "Human Character" so he walks upright and has a voice. This is not weird since MM walks upright and speaks even though mice normally do not. Pluto was designed as a pet.

This is the explanation that we were given when I worked at the Disney Store. Both dogs..but pluto was designed to be Mickey's pet.

That is funny... when I worked at TDS, we were told that Goofy was NOT a dog. He was a "goofy kind of animal". Can't remember who told me that though!
I actually almost responded that way, but decided to be smart and look it up... I am glad that I did!

Goofy was always talking dog...Pluto Mickeys pet, his companion. A goofy kind of animal...he sure looks like a dog on the sweatshirt I wear all the time We got asked that question so many times...so if they are both dogs, then why doesn't pluto talk...thats when we went into he was meant to be his pet, his companion, so he doesn't talk.

This is exactly what came to my mind also...so funny! Young boys contemplating the big questions in life- "Yeah, what the heck is Goofy anyway?" That is my favorite part of the movie!! Laugh so hard when that part comes up.

Well, Donald has nephews, and Daisy has nieces, but you never their brothers or sisters, right? And why does Uncle Scrooge wear pants, but Donald and HDL don't? How did he ever get accepted into the Navy? And in this day and age of kids abusing drugs, is it right to have a dwarf named Dopey? Snow White is rooming with seven men, that's a little creepy too! It's like the original "Big Brother" house.

Nah, I'm just teasing! I think they're all great characters!

If my only problems would be to figure out the cartoon drama of Disney................. Snow White and the Seven dwarfs were the first REal WOrld....They need to go on the Surreal life now........Let's take a look at Doc's real credentials now..... Maybe he's the reason Dopey is Dopey and Happy is Happy?

Uncle Scrooge was in the NAVY??? Also why is Prince Eric and PHillip have names but Snow WHite's man is just THe PRINCE and Cinderella's fellow Prince Charming (or does he have a name..... I forget if his dad calls them something).....My sd says it's the same guy two timing ....... LOL!
