Is Formosa Gardens within walking distance of restaurants?

My parents will be visiting Orlando with us in August 2004 and I'm thinking about renting a villa in Formosa Gardens. My parents won't have a car, and there will be times when Jane and I are off on our own (especially in the evenings). I understand that there are a few restaurants near Formosa Gardens - are these within walking distance of the villas if my parents want to eat out in the evening?

Any personal recommendations for 4 bedroom villas in Formosa Gardens?

Sorry Rob, never stayed there but if this is the complex on the road to Splendid China then there are several restaurants NEARBY, but not sure they would be in walking distance. There is an Outback Steakhouse pretty close, and on the same complex a TGI Fridays and an Italian place (I forget the name...Carrabas?? or something similiar!). Thats probably not very helpful at all, sorry!

It is probably at least a mile to the first restaurant which is the Outback Steakhouse, then there is TGI Friday, Carrabba's, and Red Lobster and (I think) a chinese. Plus there are other shops including what used to be Goodings but is now a Winn Dixie supermarket.

Plenty of choice, here. If they cross over 192 there are several fast food joints and other assorted shops and restaurants.

Thanks, is this a sensible walk along a pavement or walkway or would they have to take their life in their hands and walk along the side of the road?

Rob,

There are sidewalks along both sides of Formosa Gardens Road, i.e. the road which takes you from FG down to the 192 past Splendid China.

I'm in the process of sending you a video clip (in a car) of the journey from the 192 to FG. It's currently 93% complete and it's probably taken 30 minutes to reach that stage, so apologies in advance if it slows up your PC whilst you're receiving it. I didn't realise it would take up so much memory.

Deb, you're a star! I would like to see the video as I'm trying to decide whether I should try to find a Formosa Gardens villa or whether another community will be OK for what we want.

I've got a broadband connection so there is no problem sending me a large file.

I would say it is about ½ mile to Formosa Gardens Shopping Plaza from FG, however, if you are looking at Indian Creek, Rolling Hills this is probably another half a mile, Oak Island Harbor is also only about ½ mile, with Oak Island Cove about ¾mile. It is all pavement on the road down to the Plaza, and you have the following restaurants there: Outback, Carrabbas, Giordanos; TGIF, a Red Lobster just opposite the Plaza, plus Taco Bells, Dairy Queen and Subway - and a takeaway Japanese.

I wouldn't want to walk it in the midday sun in August, but by the evening should be ok - although early evening will still be very warm!

It is quite a long walk from there depends where on Formosa you are.

Would suggest a drop off point or something especially if they are getting on.
