Is FoP really all it's cracked up to be?

So we have a FP for FoP, but depending on how long our dinner at Jiko that night takes, there's a possibility that we will miss our FP time. Is it really going to be the end of the world if we miss it? Is it really worth it to wait in the standby line? Im skeptical...

Some of our group's opinions... (myself, DH, DD10, DS12)
  • We HATE the movie Avatar
  • We were optimistic about Pandora, just because, well, Imagineers were bound to do something cool
  • We ALL absolutely LOVED FoP -- truly.
  • For us, NOTHING is worth a 2hr+ wait -- nothing (except Metallica/GnR tix back in the day). But if you're going to wait that long for a theme park attraction, this may the one.

I wouldn't wait 2-3 hours in any standby line

That's how we feel, too. An hour wait is really pushing it for us. But if it's as life changing as everyone seems to think, then we may wait longer. I just have a hard time believing a virtual reality thing is worth it.

I have not ridden it, but it gets consistently good reviews by many who have. Only you can judge what your time is worth.
What he said.

I've never ridden it, but from reading all the member posts, I'd surmise it to be a Top Three attraction. I would put a Top Three attraction as a must-see, and nothing would stop me from seeing it. (although I would prefer using a FP+)

It's a decent ride, I'm not as thrilled about it as some, we rode it twice our last trip both times without a FP. First time in the morning at rope drop, second time same day but around 8:30 at night because we wanted to see Pandora at night. I'm guessing we got to AK around 8:10, waited about 10 min. at tap styles, went to Pandor and waited until around 8:45 for them to let the crowd in, were done with FOP around 9:15. That night wait time was posted 120 min., it really was around 100 min. I wouldn't have done it a second time but my son loved it. Like any ride at WDW is it the end of the world if you don't ride it? No, it will still be there next time you come. Is it worth a 2 hour wait? That's entirely subjective. We had nothing else to do that night, so waiting for us was no big deal (except for the fact that the parents behind us were totally upset with their son who evidently was hungry and tired and didn't want to stand in that line so they spent the entire time waiting alternating between fussing at him, him crying and then one of them picking him up and calming him down). Would I wait 2 hours for it again? Not without my son since it didn't thrill me as much as him.

Can you move up your Jiko time? That's what I would do. Since you already have the FP+ it would be a shame to miss it.

We aren't Avatar fans, but we loved FOP. It's become a must do for us, but only with FP+. I don't wait more than 30 minutes for any ride.

Our ADR is already right at opening :/ and our FP was the only time slot available.

Yup. 100% worth it. I'd rather eat at the pool bar if it meant getting a FP+ for FOP.

Have you looked in to Tiffins? It's at the entrance of Pandora and seems to have a somewhat similar vibe/menu to Jiko, well, more similar than Chef Mickeys!!:rotfl2:

I neither love nor hate Avatar. It's meh - I won't scramble for the remote if it comes on, but I also don't purposefully turn it on. That being said, Pandora is pretty amazing, and FOP is the best part. It really is an incredible ride - super immersive, the storyline makes sense, the visuals are stunning... I'd personally try to be there for FP+ but I'd also be willing to wait standby. I'd prob wait up to 2 hrs standby for FOP, but only if I were w my DH (with four kids, we don't get a lot of alone time! Otherwise, 45 mins is prob my limit for most rides)

what about hitting AK earlier, having FOP be your last FP, then going to Jiko after? Or switch to Tiffins? If your FOP FP is at 5:30pmish, you could be out of there by 6pm. The whole experience for us at FOP with FP was about 20-25 minutes or so. Unless, of course, you're trying to get that 30% off! :thumbsup2

We rode it at rope drop with minimal wait, later in the afternoon, my husband and older son (9) decided to wait 2 hours to ride again. My mom, DS2 (6), and I decided to eat a leisurely dinner.

I wouldn't wait an hour standby for pretty much anything. Our family doesn't do long waits - we've always been rope drop people and great at utilizing FP. My 19 year old brother would have waited an hour, or maybe two, for this ride last month after we rode it once with FP and he was desperate to ride it again. We ended up getting to the park an hour and 15 minutes ish early before park opening to do it again. It is really awesome.

Could you move your jiko night?

YES!

I had to make a last minute, quick trip to Florida two weeks ago and had to sneak a few hours at AK to visit Pandora. I arrived at 7:30am and walked back out in front of FoP at 9:01am. The wait time was showing 150 minutes. I walked over to Navi River and was back out in Pandora by 9:17am.

FoP was absolutely worth the early arrival and the wait. At least I was waiting in the "cool" of the morning. In my opinion the ride exceeded my expectations. Very immersive.

Show up a bit early at Jiko, tell your waiter that you've got FP's to use, eat quickly, and go ride FoP.

Well. I really want to ride it and I can't stand the Avatar movie. It just looks really cool. But I am not even going to attempt a FP for it because I know I won't fit on the seat. I have seen the videos and read all the reviews and I do not want to go through that headache. So, I have to wait until my next trip in 2019 to try it.

I have a friend going next week and he is super excited for FOP. I think it is worth giving it a try.

Can someone tell me if FOP is somewhat like Star Tours or 7DMT in intensity and movement/jerkiness?? (or, any other ride to compare) I can (barely) ride those, and could not handle anything more, but really would like to ride. Thanks!
