Shannon, we usually stay in timeshares for a week at a time, traded into the area from outside of FL. When we're planning to spend more time at offsite attractions and state parks, we trade through RCI and stay at Wyndham, Hilton, Sheraton or through II, Marriott resorts. Sometimes we add a few days at a Wyndham with our points. When we plan to spend more time at Disney, we trade for week at a time into
DVC resorts through II.

DVC has nice resorts and good timeshares spoil you!
Since we don't like peak crowds (prime holidays) or summer heat, trading into a 2BR at DVC (usually OKW or SSR) is not that hard and it costs us under $850 for a week.

A 1BR is even easier. With a good trader and some planning, it works well for us. A solid trader is under $2,000 purchase, if you know where to look.
We owned 150 DVC points ~10 years ago but sold them because the maint fees were much higher than our other resale timeshare weeks, for what they got us. As a family of 5, we've needed 2BRs on most trips over the years. Don't want to hijack this thread so feel free to email or PM questions about this stuff. I still think that if someone is enjoying a less expensive type of vacation (value hotel or offsite or timeshare trading) and if they would need to finance to get into DVC, it's much less clear-cut that they'd benefit from buying DVC.
