Is Downtown Disney Worth Going To?

It is mostly a really nice shopping center with a great toy store, a really cool Lego shop and a big Disney store. There also used to be a small carousel there and a "pick your own oyster" pearl jewelry stand. I don't know if they still are. There are also several decent dining spots and bars and a movie theater.

That's what you get if you want to hang out for no money...or a little money.

You can also spend big bucks on DisneyQuest (a super duper arcade with a significant admission fee). Or you can buy tickets to Cirque, which is truly awesome...but may require a second mortgage.

Our family spent our last half day in Orlando browsing and shopping for souvenirs there. I'm not a passionate shopper...and honestly, I'm really not into souvenirs. My kiddos enjoyed it though...especially the Potato Head parts "salad bar" and the Lego store. We had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe before heading home.

Thank you very much for all of your help. This is very handy because I am going to incorporate DTD in my agenda. :yay: SO EXCITED!!!!

IMO, it is the best place to shop in WDW!

By the way squashbananas, :welcome: to the DISBoards!!!

Downtown Disney is a great place to go to when you need a break from the parks. The toy store is really neat inside and the lego store is really fun to look through as well.:thumbsup2

An added plus: If you have an annual pass, several of the stores (including the massive World of Disney) will give you a discount that you wouldn't get by buying the same merchandise in the parks.

I usually only go for a couple hours to walk around...we dont usually eat there anymore, unless we are going to cirque. I think it is fun to see though!

I was wondering if it is worth going to Downtown Disney? I wasn't sure if it is worth the day to go to? If so, what is there that i should see?

It depends, it is nice just to walk around, do little shopping/eating. My son (8yrs old) loves Disney Quest, and we visit atleast 1-3 times, each time we go on WDW vacation :thumbsup2

We loved DTD! There were some great shops to look through and tons of great photo opps! Also, the absolute BEST restaurant we ate at the entire week!! Wolfgang Puck's is a MUST if you're looking for something not too expensive. If you are a Pizza lover - it's the best I've ever had (my mouth still waters when I think about it) and my DH loved his sandwich as well. We went to DTD two different times I think. One evening - maybe our first night there and then took a day off from the parks and went through the rest of it. We will definitely go again.

I am staying at All Star Movies, I was wondering if there was some sort of shuttle that will take my BF and I there? We dont have a car and aren't renting one. I know cabs are an idea, but eh, seeing if there is anything else out there.

You can get a Disney bus, just like you would get to go to the parks. :thumbsup2

Your Hotel provides transporatation...ENJOY!

We enjoyed going to DTD. We did Disney Quest also, but it was SO crowded it was almost impossible to play many games. (It was very COLD in Orlando during Thanksgiving week and it seemed everyone went to Disney Quest too!) I loved the WOD store and the Giardelli chocolate store! The free samples were yummy! :) The Lego store was great, and so was the Virgin megastore. Parking is free too, so that was a nice plus.

Every trip to WDW my family and i go on, we go to DTD at least two times for about 4-5 hours and just SHOP. There are so many stores, and not to forget about Pint central marketplace, its so fun.

How big is the pin store at DTD? How does it compare with Epcot or MGM pin places?

There is a cool Christmas store at DTD--I think it is called the Days of Christmas. Used to be that you could follow the 12 days around the store, but some of the days have been taken down. I read recently that the store has removed four of the day displays so there are weird gaps in the sequence.:confused3 Still, it is a great store, with great ornaments and such.

I always go to the Marketplace for a couple of hours each trip. I have to get an ice cream at Ghiradelli. This trip we ate at the Earl of Sandwich. It was really good and a great price, especially with our AAA discount.

You certainly don't need a whole day to do DTD; we actually went a few nights for an hour or two over the course of our trip. I plan to do the same this coming trip. It's fun to just browse the shops, grab a quick bite to eat, and people watch. I like Marketplace side the best; we didn't go to Pleasure Island and only went to West Side the night we saw Cirque and to eat at Wolfgang Pucks.

We always include a trip to DTD, usually the next to the last day of our stay. We love looking at the shops, and we always take a break at the Rainforest Cafe bar for a refreshing tropical drink :drinking1 (RC also usually has less expensive but nice souvenir items). I wouldn't necessarily plan a whole day, maybe am or pm.
