Is DLH worth it for just half the stay?

Currently we have 2 rooms booked at HOJO for 5 of us (3 adults 2 school age kids) for 4 nights. However, my husband has recently decided to help with planning our vacation even though we leave in 30 days. He really wants the DLH but with prices being 500 a night for a premium view we would only be able to do 1 room for 2 nights (would be the last 2 night and we would reduce our hojo rooms to 1 for the first 2 nights as well).

Is this hotel worth being all in 1 room for 4 nights? And is it normally to much of a hassle to switch hotels during the middle of the stay?

We could do Paradise Pier hotel for all 4 nights but he didn't seem to pleased with that hotel.

Thanks everyone just trying to decide if I should book it by Friday.

Personally I don't think it's worth staying at the DLH for 2 nights plus having to move from one hotel to another. I believe it is an unnecessary inconvenience to have to switch hotels during the middle of your stay when you could use the time better in the parks, at the pool or elsewhere. I actually like Paradise Pier and would definitely prefer this hotel over HOJO just for the location alone. It's definitely a lot closer to the parks than HOJO plus staying at any of the Disneyland Resorts would allow you to enjoy the extra magic hour at both parks considering you have tickets. I'm really curious why your husband is interested in the DLH.

He wants to stay at DLH for the view and the pool. That's really all he says about it. He doesn't want Paradise Pier because he says it looks like any other hotel. And he says if it's just going to be a "normal" hotel he would rather stick with hojo and have 2 rooms.

I would not sacrifice your space, especially with 3 adults and 2 kids...unless you are close family used to small quarters.

Taking into consideration your total length of stay, number of people, and cost of the DLH, I would stick with two rooms at Hojo.

I think the biggest strike against the split stay is the bother of it and the lost time. The longer your stay the less of a big deal lost time is. With only 4 nights total, I think you will be giving up too much time to re-packing, transferring, and checking-in/checking-out processes.

I also think you will get better bang for your buck with the two rooms at Hojo. I'm a person who just needs my space for a few minutes (ok, maybe an hour or two at least) each day. Having two rooms and two bathrooms is one of those things that really reduces tensions on vacation with 4 or more people imho.

All that being said, I wouldn't rule out the DLH for a future trip. We have stayed there once and really enjoyed the experience. Key for us was advance planning that helped us get a decent rate that was a splurge for us but one we could be comfortable with and only staying 3 nights. It made the trip neither too expensive nor too aggravating since we didn't overdo the close quarters thing.

Agree with your husband about choosing Hojo or DLH over Paradise Pier. PP was nice enough the time we stayed, but we didn't find the standard room to be anything special. I would rather stay at Hojo and have more money for other park splurges or stay at DLH and have that be the splurge.

Just in case staying in a park view room is an option at the Paradise Pier Hotel, you wouldn't be disappointed! The view of DCA from the PPH is awesome, and it makes up for the fact that the hotel is very basic in every other regard.

He's very much against it. What's so irritating is is asked him 6 months ago when I was booking hotels if he would be okay with 1 room if we stayed on property but he was adamant that he needed 2 rooms. Now we are 30 days away and he's all like hey let's do this so annoying. I think I'll just keep my current hotel and if something happens (like I get some OT) and I can change our reservations to all 4 days at DLH I will do that even if we don't have a view.

It just doesn't help that my oral surgery was moved to 2 weeks before vacation instead of January (and that's costing a good chunk of change) and were going on another vacation at Christmas. So I'm trying to keep our already expensive costs down and he's just like hey let's spend more lol

Oh I think you would LOVE DLH! If you're the kind of person that can pack things early and get it ready you can take your luggage as early as you want to DLH (or HoJo I don't know which was for your first days), get in line at DLR or DCA and go back over to the hotel during your afternoon break to settle in.

The Grand will give you your keys and text you when your room is ready so I assume Disneyland Hotel does the same. I think you'll appreciate staying there - it's not that difficult to switch hotels :goodvibes

Ummm I so can relate to this......my DH does stuff like this to me all the time so I have learned to say "you didn't care before so now you get what I got and that's it"!!!!!!

Good Luck!!!!

(but I LOVE the Disneyland Hotel so I would always choose that-unless it meant that I had to share bathrooms with other adults that I'm not living with)

I actually think its worth is and have done this many times during our stays. We have stayed at Sheraton Park for the first couple of days and switched to DLH for the remainder. I now only stay at DLH except when we go in November we will be at DLH for the first 6 nights and then transfer to The Grand for the last 3 nights.

Here are the reasons I love to stay on property:

1) Everything is in walking distance.
2) Early entry for Magic Mornings (this really helps to get on the long line rides when the parks are busy)
3) When you shop at any of the stores at either Parks or even Downtown Disney they will send your purchases to your room so you don't need to carry them around with you all day long. (Hint: Take photos of your items and receipt with your phone just incase for back up although I've never had any problems)
4) You are surrounded with Disney Magic 24/7 and it makes your stay more Magical!

I hope this helps you decide what will work best for you. If it doesn't work out this time maybe this will help you decide where to stay on your next visit.

Also FYI during the busy season the DL hotels will be more expensive but if you can plan to travel during their slow seasons then the cost comes down significantly.

Well today my husband found a way to come up with the money needed for 4 nights at the DLH for a premium view room. So we have switched our plans to stay over there. I did tell him I wasn't going to switch unless he found a way to cover it outside of his normal paycheck since I asked him months ago about staying there and since he found a way there was no reason to say no. We are only getting 1 room for 5 of us but the 5th person is just his grandma and we don't think it will be an issue at all.

Thanks for everyone's help!!

I did book through Orbitz though since it was $300 cheaper and I can save another $70 on a future hotel. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be much of a problem though. I'm going to call tomorrow to double check everything went through properly.

Ask DLH reservations if you can be put in a room that has 2 queens and a day bed. I think it's called an S5 but don't quote me on that lol. We told them that we had 3 adults and 1 child but none of the adults are couples so they wouldn't feel comfortable sleeping together so they said we could request a room with 2 queens and a day bed at not extra cost.

Glad everything worked out, I'm sure your gonna love it at DLH

Honestly I think you have to stay there yourself to know, if you have the opportunity to do so without risking to much money/hassle I would do so.
Then you know for other trips.
For us at WDW is a yes, but DLH not for full price.

The DLH is fantastic, and I stayed in a standard room. A view room would be even better.

Grandmothers are great to travel with especially if they can look after kids for an evening or two, more than making up for almost any confined space issues that may arise.
