We are taking a disney cruise and flying in on March 31. We'll be at the hotel at about noon and I was considering going to the parks for the day/evening. However, I know that Disney world parks sometimes close early during xmas or spring break times because the crowds are insane. Will DL be the same? I'm not crazy about spending $ on tix for 1 day if we'll only be able to get on a couple of rides. Thanks! As a back up I was planning on strolling around downtown Disney. Any other free ideas if we don't go to the parks?

Reach capacity-probably not. Crazy-you bet. On the plus side if you get there at noon you still will have 12 hours to explore DL. Don't park hop and squeeze in DCA. With a little pre-trip planning and good fastpass usage, you could ride quite a few rides. Or just soak in the atmosphere.

It is unlikely that the parks will close early, because this only happens when the parks reach capacity. I've never worked a spring break day that closed, however they will get up to 60,000 people (That is Disneyland only, DCA has their own count). So it is BUSY. I'm not sure as to what's capacity, but from experience working there, it's going to be between 70-80,000. The only days that it ever gets this busy will be the week between Christmas-New Years. An odd summer's day may get to capacity, but really it's rare to close the parks early unless there's a promotion, or it's New Years. So I would say getting to spend the day there would be worth it. It will be busy, but fun. As for free things, if you have a car, there's a nice outdoor mall a few mile away called the Block at Orange. You can google it for exact directions, but it's only a few exits south of Disney on the !-5. They have a theater there, and a lot of nice stores. Also Garden Grove is closer to Disneyland with a good bowling alley, but not as many stores. I would definitely hit DTD for some nice atmosphere and restaurants.
