Is Disney smoking crack or what???

For fun, I just priced out the 14 day in April, inside cat 11, for 2 of us with air from Seattle - $3700!
THAT is reasonable!
Not sure I could do an inside cabin for 14 days, but that is another story.

exactly! can you believe how reasonable that is? so if you can do transatlantic then you can get a great price! i wish dd wasn't in school yet, i'd be all over this! it's just those D#*M caribbean prices that are somewhere in another galaxy!

Yah, my daughter will be in her first year of highschool, and I don't want to pull her for 2 weeks near the end of the year like that with exam prep.

Those prices are crazy! You could travel round europe yourselves and stay in luxury hotels at those prices!I'm from the U.K by the way.....!

:scared1: Looks like we might be heading back to DW or do some of the DVC travelling places until DCL gets it's head back on straight.
I am willing to pay DCLs prices when the ships are in ship shape condition. What we saw and had for the EB Repo was NOT! I AM NOT willing to pay that kind of price for that kind of condition.
Maybe DCL will get the message if enough people feel the same way.

I was just thinking today about the whole mess our economy is in. And I was thinking that the only reason housing prices have been so inflated is because people were willing to pay the higher rates.

It's good to see the folks on this thread talking about getting value for your money, rather than just paying whatever is asked.

I'm in this crowd as well. I'm not going to just go pay whatever they ask to be on the special cruises, not about to go into debt for it, thanks. Been on 13 DCL cruises, with the 14th for '09 going to be booked on Nov 2nd, and right now nothing on DCL planned for 2010.

Instead in 2010, my wife and I will be going to what is quickly becoming our home away from home, Ko'Olina, on a more affordable vacation.

Airfare alone will keep us closer to home. Over $6k for our family of 5 just for the air portion.

You have hit the nail right on the head. I am planning on getting value for my money and lots more quality vacation.

I am keeping my 11/28/09 Western 7 day cruise on DCL for which I paid $3800.00 for 3 of us last week while rebooking onboard the Wonder. I am also currently pricing out taking my DM and DD to Iceland for a week this coming June. Icelandair is currently running about $600.00 round trip per person; even a nice hotel and excursions should only run me about $4000.00 for the entire trip and a great new adventure to a country we have always wanted to explore.

That still leaves me about $7200.00 of that $15000.00 DCL 2010 fund (excluding airfare) for another vacation or two in 2010 :yay: :yay:
(and I'll keep a hold on that until after the final payments are due for the 2010 cruises and possibly snag myself a Med or Baltic cruise in steerage again like I did last year for the Med at the last minute ;)

Hi bzzelady

I decided to join this thread because I, too, believe that DCL must be smoking something with those 2010 prices. Even with our 10% discount and $200 OBC it is a rip off.

No, I won't call today and book my 2010 cruise way ahead of time to insure a good rate, because there was none. I won't add to the madness and drive up prices, I will just call in a few days when everything has calmed down at DCL and cancel our 'dummy date'. Now I know why they call it that.:dance3: I would have to be to book another DCL cruise!

We have a cruise booked on Celebrity for 12/2009. And yesterday I saw last minute cruises that made my head spin. There are some fantastic deals out there for last minute cruises, we may just cancel the Celebrity and grab last minute deals next year.

PS for those without kiddos, Celebrity is a great cruise line.:thumbsup2

I've been following this thread a bit, and I am in agreement. I have never cruised at all, and I've been wanting to cruise on Disney for quite awhile. However, I wanted to wait until my DD was atleast five. That would be in 2010, but these prices are pushing me to look at other cruise lines. I was interested in the five day double dip, but in pricing it out this morning it would be just over $5K (without airfare) for a Cat 9 or 10 (I forget exactly which one)

I guess I'll be looking at other options.

Yes, it is sad that the pricing is so high. We just completed a 7 night and didn't think at the time that it probably would be our last.

Hi Muushka! Good to see a VWL friend over here!
We just got back from 4 days at VWL (Oct 5-9th)-it was a great place to spend my birthday :lovestruc

I decided that instead of canceling my "dummy" booking for the 7 day Western in November 2009, I am going to move that to a 7 day Western in October 2010. That way, it will give me the opportunity to see what the 2011 sailings are going to be (? Alaska or new ship) and being that far past the summer, it will leave me with a booking that I can potentially move to one of the summer 2010 cruises if they go on sale like the Med cruises did at the last minute last year. Either way, the fall Western is a cruise I will be happy with if I choose to keep and it lets me with some other potential options.

Made a firm decision this afternoon (after spending 2 hours in the madness this morning on hold only to get hung up on at the last minute by DCL's call queue) to do Iceland with my DM, DF, and DD in June 2009 and take my inlaws to WDW in October 2009 for 7 days at OKW with free dining (booked the BB while I was on property last week).

We took a wonder cruise last year on Disney and loved it. My son was 23 months at the time so we figured disney would be perfect and it was... that said I would never pay what they are charging for 2010. Did we have a great time.. of course but I could have a great time elsewhere as well. I can afford the 2010 rates but just because I can doesn't mean I am willing to pay that much more for it than another cruise line. If I can get a suite on RCCL for less than I paid for a cat 4 on Disney why wouldn't I do that? It's a family vacation and the ship and staff on the wonder were all nice but I mostly enjoyed my family.

If they're going to charge me 30-50% more than other lines then they better back it up on all levels. I personally thought the food wasn't good at all on the ship, we also didn't have great servers. DCL definatly isn't perfect in all areas.

We booked April 3, 2010 Easter Vacation which we knew would be expensive, but 10,400 no insurance, no ground transfers, no air is absolutely insane for a Cat 4.

We have no reason to cancel yet, but this is just a standard 7 day Westen Caribbean cruise for 2A and 2C.

In September 2004 we booked a August 2006 Cat 4 for less than 6k. Yes my children were younger, but I still can't justify over $10k for a 7 day cruise and it is not even a suite. :sad2:

Why, Happy Belated Birthday! And yes, that was a great way to celebrate it! We were there 2 weeks ago and didn't book the BB and we were also at OKW and BCV.

Wow, Iceland! How exciting! Come visit us on our thread. We love to hear about trips home!:thumbsup2

We just checked the prices for 2010 even the 5 night cruises are more than the 7 night Magic cruise we took this year. We will be changing our cruise for 2009 to 2010 and see what prices bring in 2011 looks like we will cruise RCCL in 2009 and 2010 maybe disney will get the idea.

I thought the prices for the first round of Med cruises were crazy - and I passed on the 11- and 12-nighters. I did book the TA because the prices were closer to reasonable and I had a cruise that I'd booked onboard to transfer, making it a still better price. Unfortunately I had to cancel. Someone else got my SPR.

I thought the prices for the shorter Mexican cruises were even crazier - and instead booked a week in Hawaii and an additional week in two cabins, a balcony and a standard inside, on NCLA's Pride of America for less than one deck 1 category 9 cabin on Disney's Mexican Riviera cruise. I was not impressed by the service or the food on NCLA, but the vacation itself was fabulous, and the ship is quite beautiful.

I think Disney has really gone bonkers with the prices for the Baltic cruises and was not part of the booking madness this morning, nor do I plan to book any of these overpriced offerings at any time in the future.

I've discovered my love for Disney is not unconditional.

Truer words were never spoken! But I think there are many who do have unconditional love for the Mouse.

That's more than evident in the thread going on right now where DISers are posting what cruise they booked yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that we live in a country where people have enough money to take vacations anywhere/anyhow they want, but for me it was almost more of a matter of principle over price as I feel like DCL is taking advantage of such a loyal customer base. I guess those new ships have to be paid for someway...:confused3
