Is Disney positioning itself to truly be a haven for childless millennials?

Greetings,

With the increased admission costs, added planning complexities, new overpriced dining “experiences”, lack of character greets is Disney finally turning into what they’ve always wanted to be?

Who else besides childless millennials have so much time to plan, available disposable income and appetite for wine to visit?

I think the 5%er Gen X'ers with tween/teenage children can afford it too..... Perhaps a bit more circumspect with the experiences.... you know the P.T. Barnum quote.

We are Gen X family of 4. Just bought our AP this week and looking forward to a fun year of Disney trips. We live a couple hours away so once every month or two.

I bet my families position is more the norm than the outlier.

Yes my brother.

Just so people know
Generation X = People born 1961 to 1981
Generation Y / Millennials = People born 1981 to 1996
Generation Z = People born 1996 to now

And YES these are the people that Disney is targeting.

People whose financial situation has benefitted from Covid who now have more disposable income
People whose professional life is not the traditional 9 to 5 Monday to Friday in the same building
Digital Nomads
Double Income No Kids

These are the new types of people that Disney is targeting.

Hey Millennials, pour out a glass of Chardonnay for all the Boomers Disney isn’t targeting!
Cheers.

I don't think Disney is targeting a generation so much as targeting the higher tax brackets. Disney on a dime or whatever just isn't going to be possible anymore.

They want guests with disposable income. I'm sure the ultimate goal is to find the sweet spot where they can keep attendance and spending high while minimizing their own overhead.....

I think they are definitely targeting these people - but not exclusively targeting these people. Disney has always been a somewhat aspirational type of place, so they target higher incomes in general. Yeah, that might mean childless millennieal (or this Childless Gen-X-er right here), because for kids who grew up going, it still holds a lot of appeal and nostalgia. Still, their marketing still very clearly includes kids and families, albiet affluent ones - that is their bread and butter after all.

Who else besides childless child-free millennials have so much time to plan, available disposable income and appetite for wine to visit?

Fixed that for ya 😸 - but interesting post/topic...thanks!

I think their demographic is based on the size of one's wallet not what generation they were born into.
DH and I are GenXers, our kids are grown and we have plenty of disposable income and time to plan and a very healthy appetite for wine and cocktails. I'm sure Disney would be just as happy if we chose to spend it at their parks as they would be if a childless millennial couple did.

We just go every two or three years since it’s a big expense. Big amusement parks in our area are just as pricey, but we don’t go there seven days or have to fly and stay at a hotel so that’s the difference. We’ve done frugal WDW trips where we drove, stayed off site and took food along, and we’ve done nicer hotels and sit down restaurants too. So we’ve spent a big range depending on our finances at the time.

Any post that uses generalised generational references always creates controversy and arguing, because people are quite rightly not all a stereotype of their “group”!
I agree that Disney is pricing people out, but they are certainly not moving away from families as their target. Very few additions are adult-focused, and even things like the adult-only pool in Aulani have been removed, so child-free does not seem to be the target market.

I disagree. I work in marketing and have a BA in Marketing and the classification of generations is an industry standard measurement when creating customer profiles. The amount of income is also used in creating customer profiles. There are many factors used when creating customer profiles.
