Is Disney going broke

maybe reality?

The Walt Disney Co. is the worst performing stock in the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the past year, plummeting 31 percent in the last 12 months.

Yeah, I wouldn't believe that if I were you. I showed one of the articles from that website to my brother one time, and he told me it's, well, how should I put it? Fake news!:mic: And no, Disney is not going broke, even though those silly savages attacking Disney for bad reasons.

If you Google “Disney DeSantis the economist”, an article just came out about 4 days ago regarding the situation in Florida.

No mention of economic woes.

The Economist Magazine is fairly legit/credible. It’s the only magazine that I was willing to pay $$$ bc I kept hitting their paywall.

Facts are hard for some folks I guess. It's pretty easy to look up that Disney stock suffered last year and continues to suffer due to some obvious management and PR issues.

That’s not why it slid last year. It slid primarily because Wall Street thinks streaming is maturing and is no longer a source of high growth. But the OP wants to know if Disney is going broke — and stock prices have little to do with profit. Stock is how valuable a bunch of MBA analysts chained to their computers think a company should be, and they place a bet on whether that value will increase or decrease. Whether a company is going broke is a function of revenue - expenses = profit/loss. It’s far more nuanced than that, of course, but that’s the basic gist. In fact, per the article I linked, Disney’s profits increased even as the stock decreased. Which happens to a lot of companies because Wall Street is basically legalized gambling.

Well I'm a business MBA but thanks for the insightful take on how businesses make money. I wasn't addressing the profit/loss aspect but rather that the replies were discounting the validity of the referenced article which was 100% accurate.
So you’re a business master of business administration? I’m just a plain ol’ MBA *shrug* And I think most of the replies were responding to the thread name, plus the suggestion to read the comments which, yeah, no.

CFO of a bank here. Post was questioning whether or not Disney is going broke. With a graduate degree in economics I know very well how two (or more) individuals can look at the same data/info and slant it to suit their own opinions

No. Disney isn't going broke. However that article is accurate. The Walt Disney Co. is the worst performing stock in the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the past year.
Never mind! They'll recover eventually.

Disney won’t go broke. It’s fair to say they’re struggling and reeling a bit but I agree with most people that it’s the streaming issues more than anything else. They’re making money on movies. Record money in theme parks. News organizations they own are all the most popular. It’s probably a small bit of everything and a huge part of the streaming thing. But going broke and struggling are two different conversations.
