Is Disney getting Greeeeeeeedy?

Many College Football games are now 100 for a ticket. For a 3 hour game, that your team might lose.

Not to mention pro sports ticket prices. Also disney had really improved their "cheap" food over the years.

A burger and fries at disney is much better than similar priced items at any major sporting event. (Other than the masters of course)

You may be joking, but I actually think that's a pretty low sallary considering how good of a CEO he has been.

He is easily worth twice that.

Check into the CEO at Cosco. He earns much much less than that and treats his employees pretty well pays them well and then some. Makes me like that company a lot more.

They offer very decent prices and treat you well too. 27 Million is so much money to me I can't even begin to think what you do with all that money. Retire for life I guess.

I understand Disney is a business. But come on. How much do you have to twist someones wallet just to get a few more dollars? They are starting to price themselves out of the average citizens vacation plans.

I believe more people went to Disney World last year than ever before. Also they had all 5 of the top 5 most visited theme parks in America. So obviously they aren't coming close to pricing themselves out of the market.

I know they are too expensive for some peoples plans, but they always have been. There were very few below average income family's traveling accross the country for a visit in 1971.

Sorry, but there is nothing reasonable about that kind of pay when you have regular workers struggling to get by. Don't know why people defend this kind of out of whack compensation for corporate executives. I understand why the executives are in favor of it, but everyone else... makes no sense.

The pay of many people doesn't make sense. Football players, many CEOs, the Kardashians. But that is how it works in a free economy.

If my company wanted to hire someone to do my job for less money, they absolutely could get people to line up to do my job for tens of thousands less than I make. Do you know why they don't? Because I make my company way more money every year than they pay me (and I like to think I do a better job than most any replacement could do). Fact is I get agrivated when people complain about how much money someone is making when they are earning it. No matter how much it is.

I guess I'm just all Capitalist through and through.

:)

You think those sorts of projects don't cost millions of dollars to get up and running?

Don't forget just last year finished a new fantasyland project that cost several hundred million.

Yes and there is already one theme park that is still getting worked on and two that need it.

Anything I would say about CEO pay would just be political. You and I just have very different opinion on it.

Three parks are getting worked on--DS, AK, and MK. DS is still in baby stages, but I for one can hardly wait for a huge Star Wars section!

If they started to do much more work you would really have people complaining. They can't do everything all at once.

Until they announce it I won't get excited. They haven't yet. And I don't complain about the construction. The company taking too long to finish yes that does bother me somewhat. 18 months for a parking Garage really?

I can't say that they Won't Put up Star Wars how can they not? If they want to stand up to Potter, Star Wars is the gorilla in the room.

I think it is silly it has taken them so long to realize how huge Star Wars still is. I was at the Disney Studios for May the 4th, and there were a lot of us Star Wars geeks around. A lot! And it was funny how excited I was to see Chewbacca walking around, and taking rides on Star Tours. A Star Wars area would be huge!

It looked like fun. Haven't been to Star Wars weekends in awhile. It was always enjoyable.

They're a business and are no different than any other business whose main goal is to make money. We have to spend money on things we don't enjoy so this doesn't bother me one bit. I don't think they're greedy since they are spending money going forward to update DD, AK and DHS. Besides, they are filling the parks. Are most things getting expensive? Sure, but if people are willing to go again and again and spend money then why not take advantage of that? I guess people will always think this no matter what. I'm surprised they still offer that free dining promotion. Probably, the only reason they even offer it now is to avoid the negative response they would get from people. Personally, I don't care if they offer it or not. It doesn't get me to go to WDW. I go because I love it!

I don't think it's taken them long at all, they announced three new films the day they bought lucasfilm and another within a year. It just takes time to plan what is basically going to amount to an entirely new park. (Also funding for this project may have been delayed due to my magic+ program over runs)

I doubt they would have paid $4B for it of they didn't think it was popular.

However I do agree I would like to see Star Wars land be open as soon as possible.

Of course they do. Are you really trying to argue that Disney doesn't have the cash flow to invest in project like this and not raise admission prices until they are finished?

Sure, NOW three parks are getting worked on.

The last ride to open at EPCOT just turned 10. There are many threads on the dis complaining about how EPCOT and DHS seem gutted. There just isn't as much to do there as there used to be. At EPCOT alone Body Wars has closed, Captain EO has closed, Maelstrom has closed, they took a lot of the live performers out of WS, the Imagination Pavilion is laughably bad. They recently closed Maelstrom to do a Frozen overlay that is going to take around 18 months which seems ridiculously excessive given they aren't building an entire ride.

Recently DHS has closed the Backlot Tour closed. The last ride built was TSMM in 2008 and the last attraction opened was Disney Jr 4 years ago in 2011.

Before Under the Sea opened in New Fantasyland in 2012 the last new ride that opened was Aladdin in 2001. They recycled Alien Encounter to turn it into Stitch in 2004, Mickeys Philharmagic opened in 2003, and Monsters Inc opened in 2007. Everything else was new parades, dance parties, or character meet and greets.

If they started to do much more work you would really have people complaining. They can't do everything all at once.

Of course they can't. My point is Disney languished on their laurels for a long time without adding any new rides to the parks that now the parks are starting to seem a little stale yet they kept raising ticket prices every year. Ticket prices surged at rates much higher than inflation and what have visitors gotten to show for the increased ticket prices in the last several years (with the exception of New Fantasyland)? Magic Bands. I don't know about you but I would have preferred a few new rides rather than $1 billion worth of magic band tech.

I don't see why this is continually asked. Disney is a business. They want to make money. Their product is in demand, and you know people will pay the higher prices, as do they. Financially, why wouldn't they raise prices? It isn't greed, it's how business works. When the prices get too high, people will stop coming, and Disney will notice. Until then, they will rise. It's not greed, it's economics.

Disney has plans for 2 parks and DD. I know most people hate the construction so that is probably one of the reasons Disney is putting off doing too much too soon. It also makes sense profit wise to space things out. AK is going through major construction, and to be honest, I think DHS is a disgrace but I understand that to tear up two parks at the same time is probably not a good move particularly since they are also updating DD. Epcot's FW is hopefully in their future plans because it obviously need updating. WS seems timeless in that regard and should require minor refurb from time to time.

To the folks saying that this is just capitalism at work, and that corporate executives deserve to make this much money, I say: you are completely wrong and simply don't understand present day economics. The whole system is rigged in favor of the super rich and against the middle class. It's no longer free market capitalism when all of our central policies are based on enriching and protecting corporations and the super wealthy.

The wealth gap is now the largest in our history and it keeps getting worse. Our reaction to the financial crisis was to help corporations. The Fed instituted policies like quantitative easing and zero interest rates whose main objective is to artificially raise corporate profits.

We've been living the lie that as the rich accumulate more wealth, they will create more jobs; the trickle down economics lie. Nothing could be further from the truth. The rich will never hire out of the kindness of their hearts, they will only hire if the demand is there.

It just baffles me to see so many many regular working people coming to the defense of corporations and an economic system they simply don't understand.

Then they probably should have stopped closing things at DHS if they weren't ready to actually start construction.

I think a lot of people would be fine with all of it if they didn't move at such a glacial pace with their construction. I'm probably going to have to borrow someone else's kids to take them to enjoy the new things I keep hearing are coming because mine will be too old to care!

Why do people think Disney is unlike any other company? They want every penny they can get and there's nothing wrong with that.

The only way to change it is to not go and everyone on this board isn't going to do that.

They will reach a point though that they will see that and then they will have to reduce prices or reduce services. Its like anything else.
