Is the ban still in effect?

I'm seeing alot of bible quotes & religious signatures lately, though no political sigs.

It was kind of refreshing to see them both gone for a while....

I respectfully disagree. It really boring atleast to me.

If you read the sticky at the top of the board, it only says political signatures are banned. Religious discussions are to be avoided.

Thank you :) I wonder if they changed it from the original? I thought it was both for sig banning. For a while I didn't see either type of sigs & I found it very refreshing....oh well.

I thought it was originally a ban on both in signatures as well. I kind of prefer the signatures without them--but don't much care one way or the other. I do miss the discussions though--and I am always afraid of inadvertantly saying something wrong now:scared:

I've had signitures 'off' for as long as I remember. I find them distracting and repetitive. (Even though I have one!)

You can turn other people's siggy's "off" from viewing them? How do you do this?

 BTW! I'm from Western, MA as well-Easthampton! What town are you from?

I love signatures and avatars. It is how I remember a poster (sad but true, I need that visual cue). I get so mixed up when somone changes these (especially avatars:rotfl2:)

Just go to User CP, towards the top left of the page
Then to Edit Options on the left side of the screen.

Hmmm...I'm not sure about that. I didn't realize what it specifically said about signatures until I just looked.

Me too! I just don't really remember people who do not have a sig or avator. It really helps. And if 2 people have the same thing, it confuses me and I have to often double check. :rotfl:

I'm not sure why it'd be refreshing to not see a sig. :confused3 Unless they are negative or mean-spirited, I like sigs/avators. I think it gives a poster some character snce we're all just words on a screen for the most part. Oh well.

Maybe I didn't read the specifics the first time as well :) I just remember that, at that time, religious siggys (and threads) were causing just as much hostility & arguments as the political ones.

I like siggys-especially the photos of peoples families and pets! I'm just not partial to the religious or political ones. ;)

I'm still seeing politcal siggys too. I even reported one. But, no one seems to care. :confused3 Not sure why the policy is in place if it isn't going to be enforced.

I also have signatures turned off ~ they are nothing but visual clutter to me. Plus, the Dis has speed problems to begin with and the pages load *so* much faster with signatures off. :)

Not even close.

Not sure what you mean there, but I've been reading the Dis for a while (as have you I believe!). I think many of the religious arguments stemmed from the political ones during the election-religious views on political opinions and opened a can of worms from there. Regardless, I found political & religious equally distasteful & disrespectful-Christians criticizing Atheists, Atheists criticizing Catholics, posters saying they would "pray for your soul" if you didn't agree with their faith, pro-abortion/anti-abortion, etc... I actually started despising many posters just based on reading their comments in those posts. Same as many political posters. I like the majority of posters now!! ;)

I certainly don't mind religious references-the kind lady who posts the bible quotes on Sundays, people asking for prayers, etc...I just found those siggy's and threads always led to bringing out the ugly side in somebody.

I won't deny that there were issues with religious threads, but they didn't come close to the abundance of the political threads.

Really? I didn't know that. My problem is that I recognize DIS'ers by their signatures...

agnes!

They still care enough to issue a warning for just saying the word President. I didn't say which president, just meant the office/govt in general & changes to credit cards since that's what the thread was about, and I still got a warning.

It bugs me more that you can't even say POTUS, yet others can post religious threads and have religous sigs. Just like you asked, why have a rule if you won't enforce it, or only enforce part of it. Whatever.
