Is Dinosaur a good thing to ride once? And what's with it's reputation?

I love Dinosaur! Like Ryno, I did not like roller coasters growing up (actually, still don’t). I love it because it is a bit thrilling without being a roller coaster. My 8yo nephew did not like it at all.

Rode it once with family. I had a headache for 8 hours after between the jerkiness and the bright flashing lights.

Wow I got some really polarizing answers. From adults huddled up scared to little kids jumping in joy (and people having their backs thrown out)... I guess of course everyone experiences things differently. I got in ANOTHER debate last night with my daughter over this ride. I am going to 100% ride it alone myself but she already said I will probably be terrified and won't admit it... lol
People can get themselves worked up about all kinds of things.... my college age niece has an irrational fear of koala's.... she's never seen a real koala to have had a negative experience, but if you show her a stuffed koala she'll flip out. :confused3

As to Dinosaur.. have seen plenty of the more easily scared types scream up a storm on it. But when my son was 8 he liked it, and we had a rainy evening with low crowd that we rode it like 5 times in a row doing different poses at the picture spot...was a good memory.

As others have mentioned, it is a bumpy ride that can aggravate any issues you may have.

Like if you just hold one up she loses it? That has to be pretty unique.

I feel like half of y'all are describing a different ride than the one I've been on, LOL. It's definitely jerky and bumpy (though not as bad as the Simpsons at USIOA), but scary? IMO it's more campy than anything else -- very "Land That Time Forgot" in style. IME, more people who ride it probably nearly wet themselves laughing than scream in terror. I find that I can temper the bumps rather well by holding on to the seat partition bars instead of the bar in front, and also by keeping my weight on my feet, so that the movement of the seat doesn't toss me up and down.

That said, the ride uses a LOT of strobe light effects, and if you are not used to them, those can really disorient you, which I suspect a lot of people find frightening. (I did a lot of theatre as a teen, and we used strobes to do special effects, so I got used to ignoring them.) There is a lot of engine-revving noise from the ride vehicle, and screeches and roars from the "wildlife" along with the strobe lights, so the atmosphere is deliberately chaotic.

It's just OK in my humble opinion, but worth trying. Last time we were there, my 5 year old was fine with it, and her 11 year old sister was terrified. She is almost 16 now and still talks about how much she hated it. That and Tower of Terror have evidently scarred her for life.

(I think it was the jerkiness combined with the jump scares, by the way.)

This ride is extraordinarily rough, so it has to be a good day for me to ride it, but it can be a fun ride.
