Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

We're flying into Taipei and Singapore in 3 weeks and it's not impacting us. We've had our flu shots (in September).

If our cruise or the flights get cancelled we have trip insurance, so nothing to worry about... except where to travel to instead! England is on the backup list.

CNN says 6000 people are also being held on a cruise ship in Italy because of a couple from Hong Kong. They said their symptom is a fever (and maybe I would assume other cold/flu like symptoms).

We cannot start to think anyone with a fever in January has the Cornonavirus.

Looks like 7711 cases in China. And now it’s spreading outside of China. One case already in India. That one worries me more than the rest since India is so densely populated.

But yet, here we are. From what I've read, the only symptom is a fever.

I believe I read somewhere (again not certain) that they already tested them and they were negative. Still planning on my two cruises. Upping the handwashing and everyone in the family gets their flu shots. (Also kids are taking elderberry)

Yes, preliminary tests were negative.

Not really. I live in New York City, so traveling honestly isn't going to open me up to much more than living here does (unless I was traveling to China directly, which I am not).

I'm in NY (not NYC) and I am really surprised that we don't have any confirmed cases as of yet anywhere in the state.
My dh works with a large population of Chinese people and many of them traveled to China over the holidays and have been returning to work in the last couple weeks. Sickeness has been going around the building since before Christmas so it isn't like someone ill would stand out.
I'm more concerned he may be exposed to it at work than I am worried about anywhere I travel in the next few months.

I wouldn't worry about catching the virus, I would be more worried that if someone was sick on the ship that the whole thing would be quarantined and I'd be stuck on it.

Anyone know what the protocol would have been if those 2 people on that cruise came up positive?

I agree that that is the bigger concern but well I am just not going to let myself worry about it (yet). First cruise is in April then August.

Not that we didn't already think about human to human but this is more about people NOT traveling or having travelled to China and getting the virus from someone who has. I think to me this is more or less thinking about the 1-14 day incubation period and coming in contact with other people in regards to spreading moreso before the symptoms appear and people seek medical aid to be isolated or quarantined.

The 14 day period is what makes this really bad. Of course, the flu will kill far more people. So this is an especially terrible time for this to spread.

People have strange ideas about the virus. I leave on the East Coast, and today gave a presentation about the Lunar New Year to the fifth graders and included some Chinese packaged food treats. One mother called the school concerned that her daughter would catch the virus from eating these foods. I was surprised. I appreciate her concerns, but assured her all of these foods were manufactured, packaged, and shipped way before any hint of the virus and in fact many were from Singapore and Hong Kong. I also assured her that her daughter did not have to taste any of the foods.

Some people are stupid/ignorant/morons ~ take your pick.

Viruses are strange things. They're not exactly alive. Many viruses (such as most common cold or measles viruses) don't last long outside a host, so they have to latch on quickly to spread. But of course they get their hosts to spew out billions of copies. But I haven't heard of any spread of this particular virus through manufactured products.

We are planning to travel to NYC for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show next weekend-I do not know of any of the competitors who have changed their plans. I have a Christmas Markets river cruise booked in December and I certainly would not cancel it at this time. After having my husband and many many friends who were deployed to the middle east multiple times in the last 20 years and seeing some of them come home and then die in a car accident 5 miles from home I have arrived at the conclusion that if its your day to go-your going regardless of where you are or what disease you have or don't.
