Is Columbus Day weekend typically blacked out for discounts?

We are planning on getting AP's, as we have a trip in July 2012 and then plan on going back definitely in April 2013. We are toying with the idea of a quick 4 night trip in October, but this depends on discounts. If they extend the military discount, we will use that, but if not, I am hoping on AP discount. We've never had AP's before, so is there usually an AP discount for October? And is Columbus Day weekend blacked out?

We went to WDW the Weds. to Sunday of Columbus Day weekend in both 2010 and 2011. Both years we got PIN codes (40% off deluxe) that included our dates, but I believe the Saturday night was the last night before some blackout dates for the rest of that holiday weekend. I can't remember if that PIN discount ended up being a GP or AP discount (I stopped paying attention once we got our PIN) but I figured I'd throw that out there just to say that there were discounts in the past for at least part of that holiday weekend.
