Is Carousel of Progress still open?

I tried searching but didn't find anything very recent. We are going in May and I really hope the Carousel of Progress will be open. When I was younger, my family always ended the day on the Carousel of Progress. It's a family tradition. :grouphug:

Does anyone know if it is still open? I've read various things suggesting it might close soon (or might be closed for refurbishment).

Thanks!

Audrey

edited: because I'm an idiot and can't spell "carousel" - maybe that's why I couldn't find anything when I searched! :rolleyes2

I hope it is still opened my daughter loves it, and my hubby gets to take a nap in it ;)

We were just there last week and it was open. I have to say parts of it were looking a little run down. In a couple of scenes his eyes weren't working right and things like that. But we still enjoyed it very much. This was always one of my favorites as a child and I am always scared it is going to go away for good, so I make sure to ride it whenever it is open.

I just got back yesterday and it was open. It does need some work. Lots of audio animatronic details were not working properly.

Whew! I'm so glad it's still open. When DH and I went in 1997, I noticed they had added another "panel" with more recent electronic advances. I guess they are trying to keep it current. I hope it sticks around too!

COP is one of DH's and my favorite rides....I so hope it's open when we go in May......and again in September!

It was open in mid-March and was a wonderfully amuzing retro look at the future (which by now is the past). I think it should remain but the future panel needs to be redone and possibly expanded to more than one panel.

We got back from our trip yesterday and we rode COP on Sunday.. Still running as of Sunday.. but now I have that song stuck in my head.. "its a great big beautiful tomorrow..... " :goodvibes

I must not have been paying much attention to the details because I did not notice any malfunctioning parts to the show when I saw it during the evening hours of Sunday, March 19, 06. I have always enjoyed that show and hope it continues for many more years.

Enjoy.

In the second section (the one after turn of the century), the father's right eye was making strange movements, and the lighting on the kitchen appliances was not focused correctly. Just in case you were interested. :thumbsup2

Still a great show. Just needs a little TLC. :sunny:

We love it too....although I really miss the original song. Now is the time, now is the best time, now is the best time of your life.....

I wonder why they changed it?

oh, they changed the song? :sad1: I loved that song (although it stays in your head almost as long as IASW).

Yes - now the song is, "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow" - catchy but I still liked the old one better.

I won't guess how long it's been changed but I think it's a few years already.

I still think the most addicting song was the Eastern Airlines, "If you had Wings".

It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow is the original Song. It was replaced when it moved to WDW to reflect more of General Electric (the then sponsor)'s slogan. THat song was "The Best Time of Your Life." After the sponsorship ended, they went back to the original song.

Both were written by the Sherman brothers.

I didn't know that...thanks for the info.

That's why I come here--you learn something new each day!!

No prob! My 6 and 3 year old daughters LOVE it. The 3 year old REALLY loves it. During the 4th viewing of it in February (not total 4 times that trip!!!) I just watched her the entire time. She rocked head back and forth and sung the song. The cast member tried to get her to sing it into the mike at the beginning but she was too embarrassed.

She also loves Spaceship Earth. Of course, she's shorter than 40 inches and can't ride everything yet, but I'll always love that she appreciates the classics.
