Is California Turning Into Pixarland?

On our last trip ('07) we got to spend a bit of time in California (much less time than in '05). We got a ways down the Hollywood part and while heading for Turtle Talk, I saw Monsters Inc. further down.

With a Nemo themed attraction, Monster Inc. and Buzz and Woody walking around in that section, is California slowly converting over to Pixarland?

I would say the majority of rides and/or characters are Pixar-inspired. They will be adding a Little Mermaid ride. Right now they have the Aladdin Show and sometimes Cruella DeVil can be seen strolling around.

I was listening to one of the other Disney podcasts the other day and the man who assisted in the direction of the Block Party Bash move to FL was stating that DCA and Disney's Hollywood Studios in FL, were in Disney's mind, the logical place for most of Pixar related attractions, as the Fab Five "live" at Disneyland, it seems natural that the latter generation of Pixar created film stars would "live" more in the "Hollywood" area of the parks.

That makes total sense to me, and I can see that transition completely. The Magic Kingdom has really been more aligned with the classic tails that generations upon generations have grown up with, and is ingrained in the Disney tradition, while the newer generation of characters are a more special effects and glitz and glam style that better fits in to the theming of Hollywood Studios, and Hollywood Pictures Backlot.

IMHO :goodvibes

Considering that they are going to add Radiator Springs to DCA, I'd say yes, it is definitely more Pixar.

I can see that, but I agree with the other poster, it seems like a logical place for the pixar characters, rides, etc. Disneyland does seem more "classic" to me, and I see it as having a better fit in DCA.

I sure hope so, that is the main thing I love about the park besides the openness of it!

I'm sure Disney gets alot less grief changing things at DCA than at DL just for that reason. DCA doesn't have a whole generation of Boomers who remember things up to 50 years ago.

It seems that way to me too. They kind of ruined it with a Nemo attraction at Disneyland, they should have made the subs into a Little Mermaid themed ride and turned Golden Dreams into a Nemo dark ride. Then that would have kept Pixar strictly at DCA...

I definitely agree! That subs ride hurts my head, window distortion of the picture

There is a Room for the Nemo Subs where you can go see the "movie" with out riding the sub, for those with handicaps, motion sickness, and claustrophobia. Just tell one of the CM you need to use the room.

I just noticed I wrote "tails" and not TALES!! :rotfl:

What great ideas! I def. agree! There could have been a great underwater fight seen with Druscilla and merpeople peeking in at us!!!

I've actually thought I'd maybe rather see it from this vantage point, thanthe subs....but know that will not fly with my family!!

Wasn't Toy Story a Pixar film?

Well, i don't know, the Buzz ride fits in with Tommorowland and fighting space creatures and that.... but than again, SM and St, the other ride are all based in reality, while Buzz is based in a cartoon world, so yea, you're right.... Buzz should have been the beginning of the transition and over in DCA. They really should have done an entire Toyland type thing....

I know I heard a rumor awhile back the subs were going to be Little Mermaid themed. That would have been awesome. I do agree the Pixar stuff should be in DCA...

I love it too. I love love LOVE Pixar!!!!!!! I would work for that company in a heartbeat, and I do NOT like working outside the home in any way, shape, or form. (thankfully I have that choice!) I especially would work for Pixar b/c they tend to put random employees in their movie as voices, and I have a nice voice and would LOVE to do voiceover work. I was second in line to be the "voice of Amazon" when I worked for them....someone who had done the work professionally and had better breath-control got it over me.

LOVE PIXAR!

Interesting. I haven't had that experience, but then I sit really close to the window anyway.

Pixar sells, so might was well just go all out on Pixar. I mean, just see how much Disney has been milking High School Musical...

Don't forget It's a Bugs life...also a pixar movie. I love that area of DCA.

Well, Buzz Lightyear is in Tomorrowland too, so Nemo kinda fits now...

Never mind..should have read ahead before posting...
