Is Boma's really that good?

Not only is it one of mine and DH's favorites, all of our kids love it. It is the one place we go to every trip for either breakfast or dinner.

Our experience with Boma is that it is NOT for us.

We didn't like it at all. As a couple PPs said, the spices they use are all sweet. When I did the research for Boma all I could find was that they use "african spices or it is spicey", so I was thinking "hot spicey, peppery" type spices.
We were not prepared for cinnamon, vanilla and fruit flavors in EVERYTHING.
The meats were rubbed with cinnamon, the potatoes and sides were sweet and even the soups had these spices in it.
We felt as though we were eating a Holiday dessert for dinner!
Nope it wasn't for us.

I am a meat and potatoes girl (who loves mexican) and DH will eat anything. But this buffet held nothing for us. I even tried to eat off the kiddies station, but that didn't work either. We left and within an hour both of us were wanting something...so we split a CS meal.

For us it was a HUGE waste of money.

Boma is not for us. THey use too much coriander for our tastes. But we do like Jiko and Sanaa.

Our family LOVES the Boma! It is a nice change from the standard fare, especially for my young children.

We have enjoyed Boma each and every time we have visited it. The carved meat station is to be enjoyed by all.

I think Boma is great... especially if you're on the DDP. Without the DDP, I still think it's great, but expensively great. haha In terms of a buffet, it's probably one of the best (if not the best) in Disney. The food is fresh and plentiful and the options are amazing. The soups are to-die-for. The tastes are different though and I would hesitate to bring a picky eater. While Boma still has the picky eater type food (mac&cheese, chicken nuggets), it's kind of a waste of money. I think one of the best parts of the meal is dessert. There's so much to choose from. A lot of people like the zebra domes, but I think there are better treats as well! Also make sure to check out the resort. You'll probably be getting there as it gets dark out, but you can still kind of see the animals with the night vision goggles. Have fun!

I can't say that Boma is a good or great restaurant - that would be a bit too objective of a statement.

But I can say hands-down that it's our favorite restaurant in the universe. The night before I go to the electric chair, that's where I'm having dinner.

Living in Southern California, almost any other WDW restaurant would have something comparable within driving distance, other than the character meals and the "strongly-themed" locations. But I've never come across anything that could serve as a substitute for Boma.

I'm not a huge buffet fan, but Boma is my favorite restaurant on property. Everything is very fresh and wonderful. Great for going with my mom (a vegetarian). I really loved the soups/hummus/meats/desserts. Everything I had was wonderful--and I tried quite a bit!

Is Boma that good? Yes.

Do you have "too many" buffets? No. On the DDP your kids are limited to the kids' menu at all restaurants, and many people find the kids' menu.....limited. At a buffet, while there is always a section with traditional "kids choices", children of all ages are welcome to sample everything the buffet offers (and picky adults are free to dine on plain chicken nuggets and mac-n-cheese to their hearts' content :rotfl:).

I think your choices look just fine.

This is exactly why our 2012 trip is going to be buffet-heavy. DD16 (she'll be 17 then) is incredibly picky. Our first trip in '10 she ended up eating off the kids menu most meals (and we had DxDP!) and this time around I'm picking either restaurants where she'll eat off the adult menu, or buffets. And Boma is definitely on my list from the reviews we've seen.

Yes, Boma is that good and worth going to.
We'll be having dinner there Friday night and we are very excited. We really enjoy it there. The atmosphere, being in Animal Kingdom Lodge, it's all so nice.
Very relaxing. Walking around after dinner, sitting in the grand lodge, it's all very Disney.

The food is varied enough. You can get REAL adventurous if you choose.

If you fall in love with the zebra domes, you can pick up a 5 pack as a snack credit on the dining plan at Mara.
