Is Blu Ray Overrated?

We have a large HDTV with surround sound and we can tell a Blu-ray froma regular DVD. Our player also up-converts the DVD and makes them better but not BR quality. There is also differences in players.

Good point, I should have said that in my post. It does not matter if I have Blu Ray or regular because I do not own a HDTV.

We are looking at them though. Just not low enough for us yet....getting close though.

I think if we'd gotten our blu ray player prior to purchasing our new flatscreen...we'd have to say it was pretty over rated. However, since purchasing a new tv, DH wanted a blu ray player to go along with it. I think the quality of the blu ray is only as good as the tv. The old tv was a projection screen, and it was a high def..however, the movies NEVER looked as crisp as they do now. Will we replace our dvd collection with blu ray? No. I picked up a few inexpensive blu rays this weekend to try to see the difference, and they look fantastic, but they were older movies that probably had to be remastered to be put on them in the first place, lol.
