Is Bitbelt required for magic bands?

Never lost one.

A friend lost a band once because it got caught in the strap of his backpack, it didn't fall off on its own.

If you have a child that likes to play around with the catch, you might need something like that, but if the kid just wears it that should not be an issue.

Does anyone know if the new "thinner, more flexable" MB 2.0's are being issued to onsite guests, yet? Or are they only being seen on the personalized ones in the parks.

They are not. Resorts are still issuing the original thicker ones.

I'm going to just take a bunch of little elastics like the "rainbow Loom" kind wrap it around the band, clip the band on to the arm, then move the looped elastic over the end holding it into place better.

I've never had an issue with the MB, I wear them in the pool and on all the rides and have never had an issue with it unbuckling or sliding off.

Don't get anything extra, if your concerned about it coming off just put it in a pocket or your bag during that activity.
