Is Biergarten still authentic?

Haven't been to Biergarten in a long time, we used to love it, but I guess we stopped going when they turned it into a buffet. Has the food improved at all?

I think that the food is pretty darn good......alot of people think its pretty close to being the real Mc Coy........I love the potato leek soup and the potato dumplings are delicious......It has been getting good reviews lately.....

We love the Biergarten! It has become a "must do" now. Which is actually kind of funny because the first time we went my kids complained something fierce. They did NOT want to eat German food. Well, me being queen and them being my subjects they went and they LOVED it!! I talked about skipping next year and they took a fit. Give it a try!

DH lived in Germany for 8 yrs. and he thinks it's pretty darn good. It's his favorite Disney restaurant.

Seemed pretty authentic to us when we tried it in November. We were all very happy with it.

This place is awesome, never had a bad meal here, the atmosphere is fantasic, great music and entertainment, awesome beer!

it is Americanized to some degree - items such as chicken schnitzel, for instance. And some of the desserts are completely unknown to Germans and even the recipes are not authentic. The German CMs like to giggle with me over the food items which none of us can recognize, even though we come from a variety of regions in Germany, and I trained in the kitchen

But many of the items are common in German restaurants or households.

So like every other Epcot WS restaurant, expect some authentic items and a lot of items which have been modified for the American palate.

My sister and BIL live in Europe (Sweden) and visit Germany often. They said they didn't think it tasted very authentic. I wouldn't have know the difference though. I didn't really like it, but I am pretty picky.

we are Pennsylvania Dutch, which is very close to being German, and we loved the food and found much of it authentic, the pork schnitzel, the warm potato salad, the sausages, the black forest cake, etc.

We thought the food was very good, but it isn't a place we will visit every year because it resembles the food at home.

For children, they did have little hot dogs and mac & cheese but I did see children bring food into the restaurant so their parents could eat there - believe me, Disney does not frown upon any of that (when our children were younger we did the same thing)

on a side note, I was in line at Sommerfest a few months ago to buy some water. The people in front of me where whining and complaining to the CM at great length that there were no 'french fries' with the Bratwurst bun and WHY couldn't they get fries.

When I got to the counter, the CM apologized for the delays, and I asked her in German if that was common. She said 'all day long every day'. For reference, the fries on the streets in Germany are the Belgian style 'frites' and are eaten with mayonnaise, not ketchup (I always remember going to Holland as a child and having ketchup on the table!)

We love eating at Biergarten. I think of the items are generic and tuned too American tastes. But many of the items are German all the way. A family friend who was born, raised and lived in Germany until her early 20s tells us that she doesnt think Biergarten is very authentic, but she also says that foods are made differently in different parts of Germany like here in the US.

I would say go and enjoy. Our DS who is a picky eater enjoys it.
