Is availability at Hilton Head that tough to get?

Hi all,

We were looking to book 2 or 3 nights at the beginning of May at Disney's Hilton Head but cannot find availability anywhere.

Is it really sold out? I looked to see if there was any special events in town but haven't done a whole lot of research on it yet - was just surprised to see it sold out 7 months in advance?

Thanks all :)

What size room? If a studio it could very well be sold out since there aren't many of them.

We actually bought a contract there so we could have the 11 month window.

We bought too. Getting what we wanted proved impossible at 7 months.

Very hard any time the weather is good. Nearly impossible in the Summer.

January is fairly easy.

Unless you really need the pixie dust, Hilton Head should be really easy to book if you stay off Disney. Hilton Head is known for golf, tennis, beach, restaurants, etc. and there are many resorts besides Disney. You should be able to get a 2-bedroom in May for around $180/night, and you can get a 4-bedroom for around $330/night. Sea Pines is my favorite, but there are many good ones. There are many 4 bedroom villas (catering to golfers), and if you go at a time that is not prime time for golf, you can get incredible deals.

I must have been kinda lucky. I booked a 2BR for the first week of April at the 7 month window with no problem. This will be my first time at HHI, and I can't wait! :)

I booked two studios for end of Feb/beginning of Mar at 7 months without any issues.
This will be our 4th trip to HHI.

We went last May. Initially we booked one week in May during the month of November and then I called back in January and changed it to a different week. Neither time did I have an issue. But from what I have read on here we were extremely lucky getting what we wanted.

We booked a Studio in August this year online at exactly 7 months. Great resort.

We were able to grab a Grand Villa at 7 months for a January Week in 2016.

Don't be surprised.

There are times when it is available easily but those are not the prime time to go.

May through October stays busy as does Thanksgiving, Xmas, New Years.

I am an owner and have had problems booking certain nights at the 11 month window.

There are very few people who do not love Hilton Head after they have stayed there. It's perfect with younger children. Mine basically grew up going there for numerous trips, the first was in 1997.

Keep trying and do the wait list. It's worth it.

Hilton Head DVC should be open first part of May at 7 months out, but it is not 7 months out yet so if trying to book, you need to wait until 8 a.m. eastern at 7 months out from your arrival date. The resort availability tool is showing studios as open the entire month of May but only owners at the resort can book before 7 months out.

Note if you are trying to do a rental through a broker instead of a DVC reservation as a member, then it is probable that any lack of availability is due to the broker not having any Hilton Head owners willing to rent that time right now and come 7 months out the broker's ability to get a rental may expand because he may have owners from other resorts offerring points for that time period which can be used to reserve Hilton Head at 7 months out.

Surprisingly (since there are so few of them) studios and 1 BRs are sometimes easier to get there than 2 BRs. That's primarily because the resort attracts so many families. I remember overhearing a CM tell a guest that they could extend their stay in a 1 BR, but that 2 BRs were sold out. That's when I learned this. Also, have you looked in to early April, September, or October (if you're available). Those months are more likely to have availability, and the weather's beautiful. We were there once the last week in April and found it too hot for our tastes. And we live in a climate where today's temperature is over 90 degrees-and this is October?
