Planning a return trip for August 14-18, after the Florida and Georgia schools are back in session.
If anyone has visited then, is it miserably hot???

I would not worry so much about the heat as I would the hurricanes! We went in 2004 and Charlie came through while we were in Orlando, that would be my reason to not go during August. It was hot, but with all the inside areas, we did not really feel it at all - however we did loose 2 days of fun while waiting one day for Charlie to come through, and the next day with NO electricity!!!

We lost a trip to Clearwater beach that SAME week!
We hopped a plane to vegas instead as Delta let us change our travel plans since they knew that Charley was coming.
By the way, only 2 hurricanes have EVER affected Orlando in August in the recorded history of the state. One was in 1964 and the other was 2004 with Charley. I am feeling pretty good in saying that we should be safe!
Thanks for the advice!

We went Aug 13 to 21st 2003. It wasn't so much hot as WET. Very very wet. Not just the normal rain from 3:00 to 4:00 daily.

Aug 14th was the big north east black out. We are from Detroit and got out just in time. Aug 14th is also our wedding aniversary (that year was 10) so it was pretty memerable for us.

Funny I remember asking about hurricanes and everyone was like "oh don't worry, they never come that far inland. WDW almost ever gets a hurricane." Then the next year everything changed.

If Aug is the only time you can go, go for it. We tend to stick to winter months from now on. I think May is the best time to go to WDW.

I do remember one morning standing in line for tmw land speedway at 8:00 in the morning and sweat was dripping of us.

We always go the last week in August (this year, it's 08/23-09/01) and yes it is extremely hot, Hey its the south. :lmao: but to me its the best time to go since I have school age children that I don't take out of school for vacation. Usually it's a lot less crowded than full summer, the parks are still open late (usually 9:00-10:00 pm) so that gives us (DH, 2DS 15 &13) plenty of time to take a break during the hottest part of the day to go to the water parks or back to our resort pool. Then we head back to a park after dinner, early evening when it's starting to cool down.

Go for it. I've been lucky that I've missed all hurricanes the last 6 years.

Not if you do a bit of planning. We went that weke a few years back.

First, the parks are still open late that week, so leave the parks midday. Swim and rest. You will miss the peak of the crowds and heat. Then go back in the evening and stay til closing. Consider an extra day, to go back to anything you missed or add a waterpark.

Bring two pairs of shoes for everyone and change them midday. Spray deoderant on your feet is great too.

Long hair? Tie it up wet. It helps keep you cool all day.

Freeze water bottles in your room everynight and then drink them as they melt throughout the day.

Score some of those great water/spray/fan bottles. They are priceless in August, though I dont think you need one for everybody.

Think minimal layers. Put babies in sleeveless onsies. Wear those cute tanks with the bralettes built in.......

We went last August 14th for 10 nights. I prefer to go in October but if it's August or nothing - heck I'll go in August :)

It was hot and humid but we just slowed our pace down to suit. I normally rush the family around the parks and forget to 'enjoy' the atmosphere - it was less panicky in August....I knew I would have an unhappy brood if I tried the October regime on them :guilty:

As stacy6552 commented - freeze water bottles and take a break in the day.

We stayed off site and it was a 40 minute drive - I think that's probably one of the reasons I didn't particularly rave about August. I think I was being unfair and would have preferred it if we had been either on-site or 'closer' to the World so we had a shorter drive/transfer.

August is VERY HOT and HUMID! But being from Ma. its just has hot here in august. Ive gone in August and April and the crowds are about the same but the heat is the big factor. As you can see on my signature ill be back this august! The deciding factor for us was the price of the flights. April is school vaca. up here and its VERY EXPENSIVE to fly. A good thing about going in august is YOU NEVER need a sweatshirt of even light jacket which is less packing.. :rotfl: Just bring perhaps a rain poncho and lots of lightweight clothes. you tend to change everyday due to sweaty clothes.

It's hot, but the key is to remember (as someone said earlier) to take breaks during the hottest part of the day, especially if you have younger ones with you. We tried to overdo it, and the kids ended up tiring quickly, which ended up in a lot of pictures with at least one unhappy kid in them! Taking a break from the parks for a swim and to then spend some time in the air conditioned room went a long way to restoring harmony! :hippie:

Actually the stupid thing is you sometimes need those things, but only for inside because the AC is just too gosh darn cold when you are wet fromt he rain (or even when you are dry.)
