Is AP the way to go?

I have booked a room at POP from Dec. 31 - Jan. 7. I was considering getting an AP to try to get a room at the AP discounted rates instead of paying the regular rate. Is this worth doing? Would there be any rooms left?
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks

Before Disney started the BRP (Best Rate Program), I would have said YES! Now, I'm not so sure.

Be sure to read and understand all you can about the BRP before purchasing your AP.

Search these boards, or read http://www.mousesavers.com/newapdiscounts.html for details.

::MickeyMo I'd say...YES! At first I was iffy about it when they changed it to the Best Rate Program, but after booking our January trip, I have no doubts. No rip-offs. I have 8 nights at a value for $533.44. Can't beat that at all. Same as what the "rack rate" would have been. ::MinnieMo

Let me add: It's usually not a good idea just to get the AP for room discounts only - you may be disappointed. If you plan on making more than one trip to WDW in a 366 day period, then I would do the math and see if you would get your money's worth.

I checked BRP online, there are no AP rates for 12/31 or 1/1. You could book a separate reservation starting 1/2.

I ran your dates through the BRP on the passholder website and came up with a big fat "No availability" for values or moderates- any of them. I think the problem is the Dec 31-Jan 1 portion of it because I had no problem getting a room for the 5-9th for the marathon. But I'm a passholder due to frequent visits and if I couldn't have got a discounted room I would have just kept my ressie on DVC points. Maybe you should check AAA but BRP doesn't look to be a good solution for you.

As the others have said, getting an AP is worth it. I went to WDW this Feb and am getting a second trip in on Feb 11-21, 2006 before my original one expires. I'm going again Dec 1-11, 2006 so I will be renewing it.

When the BRP works it is so nice. Instead of calling and calling checking on resorts, I was just able to put the dates in and found AKL-Standard room for 150.53 instead of the 228.58 rack rate. This is saving me $78.05 a night.
