It's been on for 3 weeks now . . .and I'm having a hard time understanding what the heck is happening? I can't help but to watch it, but I don't understand it?

Anyone know the significance of the Down Syndrome kids? They seem so in tune and kind of scary. Or if anyone watched last night . .what was up with the prisoner guy who's eyes started to bleed then everyone broke into song??

Is it making sense to anyone yet?

I watched week 1 and almost fell asleep. I'm interested to know if it's gotten more suspenseful.

It's like a car wreck. You don't want to look but you have to. I don't understand it but I keep turning it on. One minute I thought the prisoner was dead the next minute he's not. I don't get it. As far as the down syndrome kids, the first week I thought that they were spirits but they're not. Does any of it make sense to anyone?

I just cannot understand that show! I love SK books and also his movies but this one is making me crazy. Yet I still continue to tune in hoping I might "get" it!

I'm still trying

I loved Twin Peaks and enjoy sort of bizarre stories... so I'm hanging in there.... I actually sorta like it so far, but am as confused as you.

I'm trying. The young folks with a "Down's Syndrom" appearance are workers at the hospital, in the cafeteria washing dishes. They seem to have a pulse on everything going on in the hospital, both physical and spiritual. Nothing indicates that they are evil or afraid.

The fellow seizing with bleeding eyes was in prison and took a poison pill (strychnine) smuggled in by his girlfriend as part of a suicide pact. They both took the pills, she died, he survived. He was rushed to the hospital in the ambulance and they managed to keep him alive. (The singing hospital personnel was just one more weird scene to keep you confused). At the very end of the episode, you saw the girlfriend sit up in the morgue and start singing.

Does this help at all?

I have been a S. King fan for a long time but this is definitly one he wrote while "under the influence". ::yes::

I guess I will give it one more week then decide if it is worth the bother.

But I still watch....I'm hoping that at the end the whole thing will tye together and everyone will be like "OOOOOOO OKAY!!!!!!!"

this show was supposedly written about his own experience when he was hit by the hit and run driver, but like all of you, it is weirder than any other sk book. his tv stories seem to be out there . i find the down syndrom kids to be very condesending and feel he is ignorant in this portrayal. i know some down syndrome kids and they are not stupid, i feel that is how he is portraying these kids... the singing was just palin stupid, wheres the scary??? he was definetly on some powerful drugs when he wrote this story..

I totally agree with the traffic accident analogy!!! That is what I said last night. I'm totally confused and not even sure if I like it, but I can't seem to stop watching.

I must say, the vampire guy really freaks me out. So did the guy with the bloody eyes, until he started singing, then it just got weird. Then his girlfriend joining the song at the end??? One question, was everyone actually hearing that song whenever they wheeled him around (like into his room) or was that just for our benefit?

I do think it's getting more interesting, but I still don't understand any of it. I did get quite a few chuckles out of it last night.

SK didn't write this story but did adapt it from another story that someone else wrote. He added his own flair to it including the van accident at the beginning. He was not the original author though and it shows.

According to DH, Kingdom Hospital is based on a british mini-series. SK remade it it for America.

There is also a book that is an intro to the background of the series (also not by SK). DH read the book - which he enjoyed. DH also says he has no idea what is up with the kids and he's ready to throw in the towel with the series. It's just not coming together. I stopped after the first episode...Not my bag, baby!

Well, I see the kids being portrayed as the ONLY ones who know everything that is going on, both actual and spiritual. How is this showing them as "stupid"?

As someone else pointed out, this is based on a European series which SK adapted and added in his own hospital "experience". Hence the artist who got hit by a van (not unlike SK) and who is currently in a coma "sort of". I get the feeling that he may have a "mission" while he is unconscious/in an alternate world. He's seen the little girl and "the bad boy" and seems to be "guided" by his incubus (the anteater -- who "saved" his life).

It's definitely weird and I keep wondering if I should keep watching or not. It's not as good as Twin Peaks, but...

I missed the latest. I plan to see the next one and hope I can stay in the "game" if there is one. It is all that everyone has said so far for sure.

I can't help but watch either. I like it, but then again I don't like it.
