Is Anyone Repulsed By Actions from DIS-ers?

I don't know about you, but the DIS has really disgusted me in these past few months. I've seen so many rude, heartless posts. I thought that Disney lovers were kind, but it seems that some aren't.

I'm not targetting anyone, this is just what I've seen. People posting snide remarks to people asking a question or an opinion, for god's sake! And the political threads. To be honest, Americans shouldn't be able to vote if they are as rude as what I've seen here.

I realize that the election has gotten people crazed, but this is getting nuts. Can we all just agree to get along? ​

I agree. What's funny is - a bunch of "mean" people got banned a few months back. Seems to me that there are a lot of current members acting in a more ridiculous way than I ever saw from many who aren't around anymore.

There is an old quote, something like "The measure of a man is not what he does when all eyes are upon him, but what he does when he thinks he is alone".

I feel that can apply equally to boards like this. After all, you are 'alone' at your computer, posting things under an assumed name. I feel the real character of some people come out here.

I have run across many a poster who are obviously kind-hearted, and I like to feel that they, in private 'real' life, are also kind-hearted to family, friends and strangers.

I also hope that some of the miserable posters we run across on these boards are actually kind and thoughtful at home and that they, perhaps, take out some of their secret bitterness while on this board, and so spare their family.

Of course, no doubt some of the poop-heads on this board are also poop-heads at home.

I don't see much of that because I totally avoid those threads. I have yet to open any political thread. I think that if you don't want to see it...just don't go there.

I still never fully understood why all of those people were banned back then.

Just because someone disagrees with another person doesn't always make them mean or evil.

This is a DISCUSSION board and this is a very touchy subject this election that we have because the state of our precious country is really and truly at stake here.

I have disagreed with many many fellow Dis'ers but that doesn't mean that I am going to put them on ignore, I have never done that nor needed to. I may not have replied back on certain threads but I came back.

This is ONE issue. It isn't a be all or end all.

I enjoy actually my fellow Dis'ers who I disagree with, makes life interesting at least for me anyway.

Also this is the COMMUNITY BOARD section of the Dis Boards, so if you want to talk more about Disney itself I am sure there might be other boards that will suit you better.

Don't worry a week from now it will be all over

I know sometimes I come across as rude but it's hard to express feelings when all you can do is type and use Sometimes though people seem to want a pity party and will instead of asking for "hugs" or encouragement they ask a question. Then they get offended if someone dares to disagree with them or have a different opinion. Others seem to intentionally ask a question that they know will get people fired up just so they can watch the fireworks. If people ask a question and I have the desire to answer it then I'm going to give them an honest answer. How they deal with it is not my concern.

Sort of like the age old question:
"Do these jeans make my butt look fat?"
I may not directly say "Yeah, you're a lard butt" But if they looked really bad I will suggest they try on say a black pair of pants rather than letting them go out in public to be ridiculed or to avoid the chance the seam will bust out. Some will see that as rude but I've as kindly as I can given them a hint that the size 10 jeans just don't fit anymore and maybe the size 14 black pants would be better.

I agree. I love debating, and I understand that not everyone's going to agree on subjects. But it's when the purposefully snarky/hateful comments pop-up, on this board, the family board, even the teen board, that I get fed up. There's not reason why we can't demate and discuss in a mature adult way. I know the DISers are smart. Pettiness isn't needed.

I think you get a mix no matter where you go, online or IRL. I try to avoid the political threads as well as several others that I know would really bother me. I think I am a decent person and dont want to dragged into something that would make it otherwise.

You've only been here for the last few months.

The DIS has evolved over many years. But there have always nice people and meanies, and nice people who are sometimes mean and meanies who are sometimes nice. For the most part, I just avoid it and don't go looking for it if it's going to bother me that much.

What drives me absolutely INSANE are those folks that use center justification!!!

I'm not trying to pick on the OP, but haven't there been a bunch of these "people are being so rude" threads recently? Look, until the moderators step in to moderate the tone or content of a conversation or the actions of a poster, the poster is arguably within the rules (borderline though it may be), irrespective of whether you personally think the person is being rude. Because things like "rudeness" are so subjective, we have moderators to draw the lines for us and I think most people adhere for the most part. When someone crosses the line, they're reprimanded for doing so.

Additionally, everyone knows that there are certain types of threads in which the temperature of the conversation tends to increase (politics, religion, tipping, to name a few). If you know that you're likely to be offended in a certain type of thread, why join it?
