Is anyone planning a trip for 2019 to avoid Star Wars Galaxy's Edge?

I'm curious about those of you who are booking a trip for 2019, is there anyone purposely trying to miss the opening of Galaxy's Edge? If so, what month are you going?

We will be there in May and then not again until 2021 so that I can give my daughter and her new husband and Disney honeymoon trip in 2020. I'm really going out of my way to avoid it:) LOL

We are planning a trip in 2019 for either November or December without worrying about what is or isn't open! We like that time of year for the cooler weather and holiday decorations. But then again we haven't been since right before Avatar opened so we have plenty of new things to do.

Do the potential crowds for Galaxy's Edge worry you at all? I was thinking November 2019 based on the fact that opening will most likely be delayed and then we can beat those insane crowds.

Don't have anything scheduled yet, unfortunately...but, the opening or not of Galaxy's Edge wouldn't have any impact on scheduling for me. If it was a once in a lifetime trip, or something like that, I might think differently, but if the attractions in that area are crazy busy, I'd just do a walk thru and hit it the next time.

To be honest, no! Since we go only every 2 or 3 years we enjoy ourselves pretty much anyway. I'm not fond of crowds but I take them as they come and just take more photographs and enjoy the atmosphere!

And I wouldn't count too heavily on a GE delay. I can't see Disney ($$$) postponing opening until January. Their next big window of opportunity would be late spring '20. But I'm no expert with insider knowledge. Do you follow Tom Bricker's blog? He seems to have a handle on much of what is happening on this topic as well as the pros/cons of visiting in 2019 or waiting.

Yes, we are going December this year, and am currently trying to line up one more trip in March before all the craziness starts.
After SW???? Don't have any plans yet.

Yes! I read a blog of his this morning, he recommended visiting in November 2019 to beat the Star Wars crowds because it will most likely be delayed and open in stages :) (or waiting until 2021 but I can't wait that long, lol)

We're buying the AP this year and always go in Dec for holiday decorations and our wedding anniversary. So while I'm definitely NOT thrilled that SW is opening that time, I'm also not going to cheat ourselves out of a 2nd trip on the passes, just to avoid SW. We'll soldier on and deal with it, like the nutjob fans we are.

Neither of us are fans of SW at all - so already know we'll avoid HS altogether - and focus on relaxing more, doing less rides in the other parks if it's that crazy.

For all anyone knows, the record-long bull market and economy could also take a serious hit before then - having lived through a few of those, I've seen how people's priorities change rapidly.

I hadn't really thought about it when I started planning our trip in 2018. I just knew I wanted to take my son as a congratulations on making it to middle school present. Originally we would have gone on spring break, but at the time I started planning, I hadn't looked at the school calendars in my district, (the one I teach in) and his district (where he goes to school) to see both had the same spring break. I was excited and was going to bump to the trip to then, but when I thought about it and my whole reasoning for the trip, I thought summer would be better. THEN....around October or November I heard about Star Wars Galaxy opening up fall of this year and was VERY thankful I planned our trip for June!

We booked our 2019 trips. There is so much more to WDW than just the parks so we always have a great time when it's crowded. So no we didn't plan our trip to avoid it but I did think about it ... for a second lol. Me and our girls Love Star Wars! My wife, not so much

How about planning for November 15-21 :dance3:; haven't booked yet (and need to since resorts are "filling up") but DGD's give us little "hints" just about EVERY TIME we see them and that's almost daily! :rolleyes1 Just not sure if I want to "go down that rabbit hole" :rotfl2: or wait until the 2020 holiday season. We won't be able to keep them out of the new land but then we're all HUGE Star Wars fans so I wouldn't want to avoid it. We'll also be in Vegas this summer for youngest DD's wedding (tried to talk her into Colorado but their hearts are set on Vegas) plus the annual dance convention and DH's vacation days are limited. Oldest DGD will be a senior next school year and we know we're looking at less and less time she's willing to spend with us so I'm leaning to booking and "crowds be damned"! ::yes:: YOU will LOVE Avatar and Toy Story is SO cute...a lot to look forward to Kathy! :tink:

Thanks everyone! This is an old thread, when I posted it we were still trying to decide when our next trip would be. We decided to go in May and purposely miss the insane crowds that GE are going to bring. If we lived closer and had more opportunities to go we would probably just roll with the crowds but it looks like this might be our last trip to Disney :(

Definitely! Although we love the F&W, we’re planning to go in September this year to be sure to avoid this and the Gondolas

Those dates look good to me! I'm considering the 18th to the 22nd or so. It's now looking like a solo trip for me since DH and DS don't want to go back until our 50th in 2021. If I do go then we must get together!!!

party: Awesome! I'm so "wishy washy" on deciding :rotfl:; today I'm ready to book :dance3:. Lucky you on the solo trip though :thumbsup2; DH keeps hinting the same thing for me but if DGD's are involved (#1) he'll want to go and (#2) I'd WANT him too. :goodvibes He has the patience to sit, relax and wait while they ride ToT, RnR, EE and SM 3-4 times in a row. :goodvibes My BFF also expressed interest in a trip with us again; it's been 2005 since she's been! :faint: OUR 50th anniversary is also in 2021 and I'm hoping for an "entire family trip" then but I can't wait that long ...have to get a trip in '19 or '20 too. IF our dates overlap we WILL make arrangements to get together! :dance3: :tink:

We’re going for a few days in February and if a super great deal shows up this summer, maybe again. The last time we went to Disney was June 2015, and we still haven’t been to Pandora. I am not interested in battling even bigger crowds than normal, so yes, I would say that I avoid the new areas for a while.
