Is ANYONE out there watching Design Star?

I used to love this show but this season is doing nothing for me There is not one person I am even rooting for

I thought that at least now that they were down to 5 that they would each do a kitchen! When it was another team effort i knew it would be another waste of time...

and I agree it was like watching a long boring ad for sears, lumber Liq, and cabinets to go!

Okay, I was shocked at who went home. I can't believe those are the final three. I think that for elimination, they just drew a name out of a hat then made up a reason.

I liked this week's challenge better than the others because it forced them to be a little creative having to re-do things. However, it basically proved that most of them don't have any design skill.

I think Courtland went home because he chose to do his venetian plaster technique for the third time in 8 weeks - come on! Not only is that faux finish kind of dated, to rely on it that heavily kind of means you don't have many other tricks in your bag. I did, however, like his sconces a lot better than Michael's two projects. I thought Michael should have went home - he's so annoying - comes off as smug and I don't find him likeable at all. I cannot believe the judges are dropping the ball regarding "unfinished" projects. That bench looked silly with the "runner" top.

I do like the two girls - Emily is interesting and I like her quirkiness. Casey is beautiful and probably the best designer of those remaining, but she's so bland.

Remember last year's final episode - they redid an entire house - I can't imagine any of the final 3 being ready for that step. I don't think they have shown anything innovative enough to warrant them getting their own TV show. I remember the time that David Bromstad won - they did the sunroom in New York City - but I'll be surprised if we see anything as good as we saw that season.

I agree. He seems like a a bad actor playing a stereotypical gay designer on a poorly written sit com.

OH I totally agree that Michael should have gone home. I was stunned that it was Courtland. I liked his hosting the best of all four! He is the only truly likeable one in the bunch to me.

Did anyone catch that "have their own on-line show" thing?? Is that for the ones that have been eliminated? Watch them bring them back for the final show - since these guys need help!

Besides - what ever happened to the Antonio Project? It's not really on ever

And once again, it was really an arts and crafts show. What the judges liked was Michael's mirror, which was a craft project. Yes, it turned out well, but just because someone can make a cool mirror or an innovative toss pillow, that doesn't mean they can design a room.

I thought the artificial flower light was hideous.

follower, but about 3/4 of the way through the show last night I pulled the plug and gave up. I didn't wait for the eliminations and really don't care. This is a lackluster season, buget cuts have taken away the "wow" factor....lets' redesign and decorate this cardboard box sized room and who gets "design inspirations" from food!!!!!!!! It's over for me!

because last night, what the designers were using more of than anything were cans of spraypaint. I can just picture Clive saying, "Each of you has a budget of $21.95 for five cans of Krylon."

This is the most boring season ever - a real snoozefest. I'm not particularly impressed by any of them.

And what happened to having carpenters? There's a big difference between having a carpenter you can describe a vision to and have them create it versus having the Sears team come in and install stuff for you. The three judges have always relied heavily on a staff carpenter for their own shows. They've used them before on Design Star. What gives? I think it is hurting the contestants - it takes a long time to rip apart a table and build a new top. They could probably get a lot more "design" done if they didn't have to make everything themselves.

Because they say things that make us howl with laughter. Our favorite line last night was "That explains the empanada." We thought that that particular sentence has probably never before been uttered in the history of mankind or empanadas.

Also, I don't know if it was poor sound editing or what, but at the point at which the judges met the designers on the street, Vern's voice sounded just like Bullwinkle's. We replayed it several times.

Vern is getting on my nerves... he thinks he is just the stuff!! NOT!! Michael should have gone home. Just like Antonio, if he's hosting a show, I won't be watching it! I like Courtland and Emily the best of all of these and now one of those is gone.

I think they are looking for a "look" and somebody who can do halfway decent at hosting. They want a pretty woman to win, NOT a good designer. They can have staffers to the actual design work.

However, my boyfriend did watch the end of this week's Design Star - he sat down on the couch with (what every girlfriend loves to hear) "She's hot." And he didn't bug me to change the channel until it was over. So maybe they're onto something...

I stumbled across Emily's blog - The Brass Petal - and LOVE it. Her sense of humor that we catch glimpses of on the show really comes across. She hasn't posted a full breakdown of the last episode - but here's the one she did about the kitchen challenge (if you're interested)

She reveals they only got to shop at 2 stores (well, there was a third at one point...) and that they had to change their original choices because the other team chose the exact same finishes. Also, their photographer didn't bring standard photography equipment and they were expected to choose lenses and everything. I don't like that at all - I understand the need for a designer to know how to show off a room well through photography (the challenge) - but should that extend to knowing what lens to use? It sounds like the show is really making them try and do too much that is not design.
