Is ANYONE maintaining the attractions at Universal?!?

Just got back from spending the weekend at Universal and from what we experienced, it seems like they layed off all the people who had anything to do with maintaining the rides (no wonder we no longer hear from Earl, IOATech or CoasterFEV!).

Got to IOA about 1:00pm on Saturday. Hit the Hulk first and everything seemed to work fine. Unfortunately that was one of the last attractions we experienced which was operating properly.

Next was Spiderman. Starting a couple seens in I could tell something was wrong...in one of the early scenes the projection must have been off because I felt like I was going blind in my left eye. The Dr. Octopus heat effect wasn't working and neither was the fire effect when Hobgoblin throws the pumpkin bomb. Shortly after the park where you are above the city the projections screens cut out entirely and the car started 'bouncing' up and down for a few seconds. At this point our car just proceeded to the exit with most of the screens off. We went thru again and everything seem to work this time with the exception of 'the spidey' signal, the Dr. Octobpus heat effect and the fire effect.

After this we went on Popeye which was ok, though we did get stuck on the boat wash/lift hill for a couple minutes. After that we went to go on Dudley Doright, but no luck. Hung around and about 20 minutes later they got it working again. Ride was ok, but the early scene with Dudley riding his horse was missing.

Next came Jurassic Park River Adventure. Right before we got to the stegosauris area the ride just stopped and we sat there for about 15 MINUTES. Finally got started again and things were going ok until the end when the ride broke down again with about 7 boats between us and the unloading area. They made us sit there again for about 10 minutes and then had to manually evacuate each boat since they couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Ok, next we figure we'll try Dueling Dragons. Bad idea...Fire Dragon appears to be stuck on the lift hill so they are only running Ice. Universal Express line is a 30+ minute wait because they can't get fire running. We decide to try later and make the 4:30 Sinbad show. Even this show had problems. When 'Mazaria' (or whatever the witch is called) was supposed to appear nothing happened and the characters were exchanging dialog with an empty spot on the stage. The princess ran offstage and after about a minute Mazaria finally showed up. Went to do Poseidon's Fury and fortunately it worked perfectly. Actually had a decent (and funny) Taylor for the first time, though I still give a slight edge to the old show. Went back to Duelling Dragons and they finally had both working.

Next up was Suess Landing. Cat in the Hat still has many problems...Thing 1 & 2 broken as they come out of the box, Piano doesn't fall, Fish in toilet messed up AND the ride got stuck and stopped at least twice!!! Last IOA attraction was Car-O-Suess-El which was also pathetic. Most of the characters are broken and weren't working and no music was playing while the kids were riding.

We spent the night at the HRH so this morning we got up to head over to the Studios and decided to do Hanna Barbara first. After the video in the waiting room they announced that the attraction had malfunctioned and they had no idea what was wrong. After about a 20 minute wait they got it working again. Fortunately the other attractions we did (E.T., MIB and Twister) all seemed to work ok, though for some reason E.T. had a long line and they had the Express queue blocked off with a chain...which I removed!

What the heck is going on?!? We are passholders and will still be returning, but I can't imaging the impression an experience like this would leave on a visitor? Does Universal not care one bit about what their guests experience any longer?!?

Wow. that's some trip report.

Actually, if you ask me, I think the insiders left because one fan pissed them off by challenging Earl. Not a good thing to do, he hasn't been back here since the dude told him he was wrong about the next rumored coaster to be put in IOA, a flying B&M similar to the England version of Air.
Earl's next message simply said, ok, I should't talk so much and that's the last we've heard of him.

Earl, CoasterFev, and IOATech, PLEASE come back.

We need the inside talk about the park so the rumors don't go out of control.

Ignore the punk who challenged you. There are hundreds of people who read this board looking for information about the hotels and park.

Please come back.

There are many of us who still hope to visit the park before year end and hearing/understanding what is going on is a big help. Don't leave us stranded, please.

I have just returned from Orlando yesterday. I stayed at Disney, then at HRH Oct 3 to Oct 7. I went to IOA 3 times and Universal once. I did all the rides and experienced no problems. None were malfunctioning or completely down, I'm sorry you had to experience this. I didn't visit either park on the weekend, only wednesday to friday, guess I just got lucky with the days I visited...

Sounds like you were just cursed on that day. We actually only ran into a couple of minor problems on our stay. The first screen on Spiderman didn't work on our first ride through, but was ok on all the others. Also, the Spider Single didn't work on any of the times we rode it. The doors entering Jusrassic Park were non functioning (one was missing) and the first time threw the two baby raptors that fight over the shredded JP outfit weren't working. The other times we rode it they were though. A few minor things on Cat in the Hat and on Dudley weren't working also.
One thing I have a question about though is the Boat Wash on Popeye and Bluto, I think I remember the first time I rode it last year the Mops went up and down and Bubbles came out, plus I think we were squiirted a bit more. When we went back a few months later, these things weren't working and they weren't working last week also. Are these things supposed to happen or did I imagine this on my first ride?

Both show doors are now on at the entrance to the JPRA. They are not swinging at this time and i noticed another C-Clamp i will have to try to talk IOAtech out of...

The mini-dinos were fighting over ERIC's shirt as well.

I notice small things that are working one week and not working the next week, but if this is the first time you have been on these rides you will never know the difference and your experience will not be diminished for one little water squirter not working. :smooth:

I went to IOA today, and one of my goals was to see how Spider-Man was holding up. I was very impressed with the improvements/repairs they made since my last ride, three days ago. The Spider Signal is back, and it seemed to be bigger (but it might have been my imagination). Both Doc Ock's heat and Hobgoblin's fire are back, and all the screens and audio were flawless.

Not everything worked (the garbage/toxic waste truck still isn't rolling towards you, and the pipe that falls towards you is still MIA), but you don't really miss out on anything when they aren't working. One thing that was really bad was the LCD projector in the "Spider" room of the queue. That thing is kaput. There were really odd looking yellow streaks and "splotches" all over the projected video. I'm sure it will be fixed/replaced in good time..

MrMonacho. Are you talking about the big screen in the room with the scoop model? That wasn't working when we where there Oct. 1. Other than the spider single, tho, everything else worked great that day.

Yeah that's the one. Was it the kind of problem I described, or was it just off altogether? When I went on Saturday I used the Singles' line so I skipped that room.
