I'm an MLT certified by ASCP since 1993. (Medical Lab Tech, certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologists)
Interest in the lab has increased since the advent of shows like C.S.I. and other forensics shows. I worked in a hospital stat lab, a research lab and outpatient lab. I work in research now. A lab degree is a great stepping stone to work in research. I like it a lot, and body fluids don't bother me at all, obviously. I'm also a very skilled phlebotomist.
The only downside is that if you are fresh out of school, you may not get the shift you want. The only jobs you may be able to get for awhile may be night shifts or weekend shifts, but you have to take what you can get to gain experience.
You ought to contact ASCP.org for more info.
