When I log onto AOL I get a pop up asking me to answer a question for future security access.

Is anyone else getting this...is it a scam..virus???

Nope...no pop-ups.

I did get something that said we would be asked to agree to TOS again (terms of service), since it has been 5 years since we last agreed:rolleyes: ....too bad it has only been 3, lol.

AOL has been acting weird for the past 2 days for me though.

I signed on and was on my screenname, but when I went to check my mail, it was my daughter's mailbox.

Be careful.

I did get it several times and ignored it. Then one day it wouldnt let me on to AOL at all so I had to post a question. But it never asked me for my password or anything like that. Only to make up a question and give then answer.

Here is the pop up I get....

Urgent, Final Notice: Set Up Your Account Security Question Now

I looked around AOL and it does have a section on the Account Security Question. It is just strange that I am now getting it all of a sudden.

Charlie I guess maybe they are trying to get a step ahead of the hackers and adding some additional security. Who knows. We had AOl for 3 year and actually I have cable now through Roadrunner but everytime I call AOL to cancel the account they give me 2 or 3 months free, lol. We havent paid for it since April but honestly I only check for old e-mail to make sure I didnt miss anyone when changing over.

That is weird Charlie. If I got that pop-up, I missed it...or my Pop-Up Blocker blocked it.

I would think they would ask for something like that via e-mail...using that special color mail that AOL uses.
That's how I got the message I was talking about. They said another aol mail would follow, and I should fill out a small form.
It never came.

If I were to get that pop-up, I would not be answering any security question without checking with aol first. I would probably make a phone call.

Hey Charlie, I have been getting this following pop-up for about 3 days now. It is asking me to provide my answer to my account security question. I assume it is a scam and do not answer it. If aol really wanted to get into contact with me, they would call my house or send something in the mail I would assume, as they know many people might think this a scam. It will not let me continue unless I click on the button to bring up the security question screen, but from there I just hit cancel.

<font color=navy>I also haven't got it, and I have aol pop-up blockers. I would think that if it were official from AOL they wouldn't block themselves. :)

LOL Mary JO--now that would be an awesome pop up blocker. I dont see how it could be a scam they dont ask for any of your account only--only that you set up a security question. If its not AOL then it wont help them access your account because AOL wouldnt have that on file. They didnt ask for billing info, password or anything like that that AOL really has on file.
Also after ignoring it so many time's it finally came down to if I didnt make a question I couldnt get any farther in AOL than just logging in. It wouldnt let me check my e-mail, pick on of my faves or put in a website. That was the only thing I could do.

Hi Charlie. I got this a few months ago. It is an added security level to prevent anyone from getting your password. If AOL gets an e-mail request, or a phone inquiry, requesting confirmation of your pass word [should your computer lose it and you can't remember it] you must answer the security question correctly before they will give it to you.

Thank you all

...maybe I should not have called it a pop up. It was more like a window with AOL type font.

This is the actual screen you get when you do an AOL search on "Account Security Question":

The Account Security Question is a simple question and answer created by you, which AOL uses to verify your identity and to protect your privacy. Currently, only Primary Master Screen Names must create an Account Security Question.

It's important that you create an Account Security Question that only you will know the answer to and keep that information safe. Create your Account Security Question now by following the instructions below or clicking here:

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Billing.
2. Click Account Security Question.
3. Select a question or create your own custom question.
4. Type in the answer to your question.
5. Click Save.
6. Take note of your question and answer, particularly the spelling of your answer, and don't share this information with anyone.

Charlie, yes it's some new security thing from AOL. I've been going nuts trying to change my billing and take advantage of an offer they sent. I got that pick a question and give them an answer on-screen today. Later, when I called AOL they asked me the question.

I seem to remember this a few months ago also. But I've got a pop-up blocker so don't know if can get through that or not. Maybe I got it before I had the blocker.

I had one of those when I signed up for AOL a while back. I didn't know some people didn't have it.
