Is Anyone a Pressed Penny Collector?

Somewhere I read that you can get a pressed penny locator list at guest relations in each park. I also read that you can get a master list for all of Walt Disney World at MGM. I haven't tried this yet, but I'm going down in 3 days, so I'll check it out when I'm there.

Searching for the machines is a good way to explore WDW and get to some places that you would not normally visit. We now look for pressed pennies on all of our trips. (Even non-Disney!)

If you do a google search on pressed pennies, you will find more information.

My DS (12) is another "pressed penny" collector. He has been collecting them for several years from everywhere we go. He has them from different museums, zoos, WDW, Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, everywhere. You can also get some really cool ones on the Interstates if you drive, the rest stops usually have them.

It really is a cheap and fun item to collect and doesn't take up too much room.

We have 3 books filled so far and then one book of the quarters! Next trip I am getting another book and hopefully more pennies and quarters pressed!

When we went last May our sons were on a mission in Epcot to get a pressed penny of every country. We soon found out some of the countries do not have a machine. We eventually found all but one of the countries I believe and a nice CM printed out a list for us when we told him of our dilemna. I believe one country (possibly Japan) had theirs in a machine in the gift shop upon entering the WS from FW. If you are careful you can get the same "type" penny of every country - they all have different designs but are similar.

Almost every trip I take someone with us that hasn't been to WDW before and I make them a Disney gift basket. I read the tip here about using the mini M&M containers and I put in one filled with quarters and one with pennies and a pressed penny album. I also found a roll of magnetic tape that can be cut into small pieces that makes the pennies into refrigerator magnets. I made a basket for a co-worker 2 weeks ago and they had the most fun looking for pressed penny and quarter machines to fill up the album. My teenagers even love it year after year. It's a fun and inexpensive souvenier. My DD wants to make a charm bracelet out of some of them.

Im also an obsessed collector and have over 5 books of my WDW ones. It took several days and trips to the different resorts to get all the series completed but it was a cheap way to spend the days :)

My grandkids ( 6 and 8) love collecting pressed pennies. They each filled a book the past two summers (36 pennies and 6 quarters in each book).

So when my sister took her kids to Disney a couple of weeks ago for the first time I ordered autograph and pressed penny books from www.giftsofalifetime.com. As I expected, both my nieces loved getting autographs from the characters and searching for the penny press machines.

anyone else have a problem with this link...I keep getting dell host????

On our last trip to WDW my DS and DD were 4 and 6 and were both afraid of many rides.... but looking for the penny machines was a highlight of our trip!!! It was an adventure.... my DH would tell them " I can smell a penny machine..." and they would run off after him looking for the machine! Each child filled a penny book completely. They have also started finding them at various places nearer to home... like the local bowling alley! My DH has also found them in a few places while in business trips (got a nice one of the NY skyline prior to 9/11). But it is not really an "inexpensive" souveniour if you start adding it up! Sure, maybe a few are cheap, but filling books starts to be pricey.... but after all, it is only Disney Money!... We have already started planning how many we will be trying to get on our next trip! Be sure to look in less likely places (train stations, back of gift shops, etc). They are not all right out in the open... make it an adventure and have fun!:D

I couldn't see where that "giftsofalifetime" link had anything to do with pressed pennies.... what did I miss?

they sell the pressed penny books - if you want to get them ahead of time.
:)

My daughter has been collection pressed pennies for years. We know that wherever we (or she) travels, we have to find a machine. Thanks for the tip on the books, I didn't know they had them. We will be at the MK in 2 weeks and will find one for her for Christmas to keep her's in. They are a great, inexpensive souviner and are almost everywhere you go in the US.
