I need to stop my free trial of Amazon Prime today, but I'm wondering you think Amazon Prime is worth it after Christmas. I've never shopped Amazon alot except for at Christmas time and I've gotton alot of good deals on Amazon this Christmas and have had no problems in shipping (2-3 days max). In the past when I've ordered from Amazon without Prime there have been delays, problems, ect... So I'm wondering.....Do you shop Amazon much after Christmas? Are the deals still there? And do you think Prime is worth keeping year round?

I order throughout the year, not a lot though. I always get the FREE Super saver shipping and always get my package within a few days. $79 is a lot to pay for a few orders that you might need quickly. It'd probably be cheaper to just pay for expedited shipping on the orders you absolutely cannot wait for. I plan on cancelling mine. If they offer it free again next holiday season, I'll sign up and use my husbands account....

IMHO, no. Amazon normally ships pretty quickly, other than the holidays. $79 is a lot of money. Especially since a lot of their stuff ships free over $25 anyway.

We do and like it. I can order something for $10 and it's here in two days with no shipping charge. I like not having to meet the $25 requirement. And it's like $3.99 for overnight. It's saved me on a few birhtdays. However, this doesn't work on 3rd parties which is a pain.

I have it but frankly the only reason I got it is because I ordered a TV last January and the 2nd day shipping cost was the same as doing Amazon Prime so I got it. It's a good service *but* you still make out better just grouping your purchases to $25 or more to get the free shipping.

It isn't something I plan on purchasing again and I plan to let mine expire next month.

i would never pay $79 a year, when any order over $25 ships for free. Most of the time it arrives within a week or less on the free shipping. We always have a list of books/DVD's/etc in the shopping cart if we need to add something to get free shipping. And the 4 for 3 book deal is my favorite.

We order a lot from Amazon. I figure we used to spend $79/year on getting to $25 for free shipping that we at least break even. I love that I can order a book and have it here in a couple of days and I don't have to buy unneeded stuff just for free shipping.

AGREED!! I have it and LOVE it. Amazon has to HATE us, I ship books all the time and the total can be $7.99 and I get it in two days. And the overnighting for $3.99 is AWESOME...we bought one of those HUGE Banzai ($500) waterslides, had it overnighted...Amazon had to lose their shorts on that!!

I'm going on my 3rd year of paying for Prime, we love it here. I do a LOT of my shopping on Amz, kids party gifts, dvd's (weekly new release), books, k-cups (subscription), and rarely are my orders over $25 but still ship free and saves me sales tax!

If I had to walk into Target to buy a $15 birthday gift for a playmate, no way would I get out of there spending less than $50 (usually way more) and it takes up time and I end up paying sales tax. With Prime I just pick up whats needed (tax free) and it's on my doorstep 2 days later and I was able to not be tempted by all the other stuff I didn't know I needed. :lmao:

We have it, too and I LOVE it! :lovestruc The nearest (good) book store is 35+ miles away - and as an English teacher, I go through a lot of books! Driving to a Borders that far away once a week gets expensive!!! I love that whatever I order with Prime gets to my house in two days - I can order a new book on Wednesday and have it in plenty of time for the weekend. :thumbsup2

What do you mean? I have used prime to ship to other addresses and even used my aunts credit card for payment on my account and shipped to her. Prime was never affected.

They mean it won't work if you order an item from Amazon that is from a third party vendor (e.g., if you bought a used book in the Marketplace).

Regardless, I love Prime 365 days a year.

Personally, if you dont need it for any more holiday shopping, I'd let it expire. Then, if you need something fast or are so inclined, you can add it any time and you'll have it for next Christmas. If you renew now, it will expire just before next Christmas when you might need/want it again. If you renew early next year, it will be valid for Christmas next year.

My DH got it a few months ago and I mocked him endlessly about it...$79 for shipping when you can often get shipping for free!

However, now that we have it, I do find myself ordering more from Amazon. I've found that often the price is comparable to Lowes/Target/Borders/TRU/etc. and this way I don't have to drive there or pay sales tax. So, in the end I think it's actually saved us money (tax, gas, etc).

But, please don't tell my DH he was right!:rolleyes1

Love it.

Especially if you have family elsewhere and ship gifts; or if you buy books or DVDs . . . or if you are planning a major purchase like a TV.

I guess I never considered how Prime shipping could be a bargain. Thanks for the other viewpoints :)

It depends on how much you will use it. If you really won't be buying much from Amazon, don't bother. We make more than 100 orders on Amazon a year, so it is definitely worth it for us.

LOL- no, because I'd spend WAY too much on all the "little stuff"! $25 qualifies for free shipping, so that amount makes me consider it a little longer to see if I really want/need it. I signed up for it for Christmas, but must admit I've spent more than I wanted because they had another GREAT deal that was under $25 with free shipping and no sales tax! :rolleyes1

Maybe I shouldn't ask this, but can I just open a new account next year to get the trial month again, or is it one per person/household?

We have Prime for our company use and have an average of 3-4 packages arrive a week, so it really makes sense for us.

Also, I am not a tax specialist by any means, but for everyone who is mentioning the benefit of on-line shopping as a means to get around sales tax, be careful. Many states actually have what is called sales and use tax. Sales tax is collected at point of sale in most states. When items are purchased outside the state of use (such as items bought online) where a business did not collected the sales tax revenue and forward it to the appropriate DOR, the "buyer" may be required to remit a use tax. This is collected in different ways (monthly, annually, via state tax returns, etc) based on the state you are located in.
