Is Amazon.com slowing deliveries on purpose?

Well, my order STILL has not shipped. And, like I said, it does appear that both items are in stock... and have been all along according to the site. Nine days now and not shipped.....hmmmn.

If it makes you feel any better, I ordered some books in MAY that haven't came yet. I keep getting an email saying that they are delayed.

I got four books of a seven book shipment. I don't even think I want the other three anymore..

I don't know but my mom ordered DS some books at least 2 weeks ago and they haven't even been shipped yet. They were not on backorder when she ordered them.

She was using a gift certificate and did the free shipping. They had to be ordered on or before July 25 because my mom put her computer in storage to move the 26th (her house closed the 27th).

I logged into her account yesterday and it said they won't ship until next week. I know I have a disappointed 4 year old.

I have always used the free shipping option and received my books within 2 weeks. However, my last order took a month and a half! I ordered them at the end of May and did not receive them 'til the middle of July.

Wow, I guess I'm in the minority here because I always get my order very promptly and I order from them quite often. One thing that does annoy me however is on the rare occurance they are out of stock and have to order the item back into their system, I'll get the "email" telling me about the delay BUT they don't make it very clear that you HAVE to click on the link to approve the delay. If you don't, they assume you no longer want the item and it is taken off your checkout page. If you want the item after that, you have to reorder it. I didn't realize this the first time it happened and waited in vain for a book that never arrived. I'm assuming those with problems emailed their displeasure to Amazon. Just curious if anyone got replies........

For me. I can't see paying $79 for shipping. If I have to have something fast, I'd pay the few dollars extra on that item. But I was interested even so in hearing what others thought of the prime plan, so thank you for posting, DisneyLovingMama.

I find that sometimes the used book sellers ship faster than Amazon.

Update to my last post.

I ordered some stuff on Thursday and it's already here, I guess I'm in the minority. The ship from NV, I live in CA so I guess that's why.

I ordered 5 books for the classes I'm taking this fall. A couple of books were showing that only a few copies were left, so I'm guessing many, many college students are ordering their textbooks from Amazon. That may be part of the reason for the delay right now. Two of my books showed that they were shipped on Aug. 6, but when I tracked the shipment they had just notified UPS to pick them up. The other two books showed up as shipped on Aug. 7, though all four books were ordered at the same time. The second part of my order is going through US Postal Service and was already picked up.

I also wonder if they are purposely are slowing things down so people sign up for the Amazon Prime service. I used to regularly get my "free" shipping orders within a couple of days.

I ordered the Kitchenaid mixer that was the fantastic deal a couple weeks ago, had free shipping and had it sent directly to DIL.....well, she had it within 3 days.............I had no idea they are or have opened a shipping warehouse in Phoenix, Az. and that is where mine shipped from....which was great, cause that is where it was going too... :flower:

My books and DVD arrived today (Aug 8th) I ordered it July 30th.

I'm even more frustrated than when I posted earlier. One of the books won't even be here until Sept 16-29. It was ordered mid-late July! And it says "usually ships in 24 hours"

I have a feeling that this will be one of our last Amazon orders.

I find that the free shipping option for Amazon is a hit or miss type of thing. Once I had used the free shipping and the item was in stock, it didn't ship till 10 business days had passed. I wrote them asking about this and they basically(they said it much nicer then this) told me that with the free shipping they were not required to ship it as soon as possible and they instead ship it when they get around to it. On the other hand there have been times I've gotten it within 3 days of ordering the item.

I've learned that if I want it soon I don't do free shipping. If I just want it and am willing to wait 2 weeks I'll let them ship it free.

Remember that Amazon is known to keep detailed profiles on all customers, and provide preferential treatment for a variety of reasons. I cannot imagine why I would warrant such priority service, but perhaps I've been profiled as a highly-profitable customer. :confused3

I ordered Star Trek DVD's from Amazon about a month or so ago, and they took over 2 weeks to arrive. I was really surprised because it listed the items as "in stock", and "usually ships within 24 hours". :confused3

Hey Papa,

I ordered my hubby's birthday present on June 27. On JULY 20, it still hadn't arrived (it was a book). They e-mailed me a few days later and said there was a delay and that the book wouldn't be shipped until Aug. 20-something. I said forget it and canceled the order.

You aren't the only one experiencing this. GRR!

hmm. I ordered some DVD's from Amazon Saturday. In stock, 24 hours. The following day I ordered some books from B&N. The books from B&N arrived one yesterday and the other today. Amazon's order is listed to ship next week. Slow down? It sure looks like it. I makes me inclined to order from B&N rather than Amazon.

It's interesting that this thread popped up again.

I pre-ordered Sin City from Amazon with the super saver shipping. I figured it would be late but that since I wasn't in a hurry that I didn't mind. Boy was I suprised when the DVD arrived on the Tuesday the move was released. Sometimes it's late, sometimes it seems to ship very fast. :confused3

Weird. I placed an order last Friday and it's already here. It was the free super saver shipping.

I don't know man!

I pre-ordered Nintendogs (DS Game) on Sunday from them (Release date being Tuesday, Aug. 23rd) and it says estimated ship date Oct 2!!! :earseek:
