We stayed there for Star Wars Weekends last spring and last Christmas/New Years. Both times we had a renovated/redecorated unit. Sigh! I'm already nostalgic for the classic OKW tropical decor. It's beginning to look like a display circa Lowes/Home Depot. The units seem more contemporary suburbia than 1920's Key West. It's lost the Old World Charm.

Not until spring/summer 2012.

I'd say you are about 50/50 right now.

Are you sure it isn't spring 2011? It seems to be more than 1/2 done, considring Turtle Pond, South Point and at least half og the Hospitality are seems to be done.

If I wanted to stay in a renovated room, can I request one? I love dark wood and think the rooms are beautiful (although I admit it looks a little more like the Beach Club now then Old Key West).

We are staying in a studio. Do you know which buildings are done for sure?

Thanks!

Most of Turtle Pond, all of South Point and bldgs 11 to 14 should be completed. I don;t think they've completed Miller's Road or bldgs 23 to 29.

FYI- I just got off the phone to make a reservation and was told that the rooms will all be done by March.

I tried to request a renovated room and she said the hotel informed them that by that time they will all be finished.

What's interesting is the 2012 point charts for OKW now state all 1BRs sleep 4 and many sleep up to 5.
Does that mean you can or will be able to request a sleeper chair unit?
Will some units not be renovated or not include the sleeper chair? (Not sure if some HA units would not include that?
Or were they not certain renovations would be complete?

They probably wanted to be sure all renovations were completed before stating that they will all sleep 5 on any point charts. You point of some HA units may also apply, but AFAIK the HA units will all have the sleeper chair.

We just got back from OKW. We had a one bedroom unit in building 25 which had not been renovated yet. However, it was comfortable, right on the golf course

My guess is that this is only because some of the rooms will not be finished at the start of 2012. Next year I'd expect to see all 1BRs sleeping five and all 2BRs sleeping nine. There has been speculation about whether DVC would officially change the occupancy on the point charts. Looks like they are indeed doing so.

We just came back, building 19, unit 1911. A 1-bedroom, first floor unit.

Not remodeled, but still very nice and large. had 11 people for Thanksgiving Dinner and we all sat very comfortably. It was nice that the resort let us use 3 extra plates and utensils, since each room has service for 8 only. They also gave us 2 extra chairs. VERY NICE!
