This goes to show that you must try things for yourself. Everyone's tastes are different & everyone has different criteria as to what makes for a good experience.

Years ago we too had enough bad experiences to stay away from Alfredo's for a few years. About a year & a half ago, on one of those crowded, rainy, no PS days where you are so tired/agitated/starving/fill in your own blank that you don't care what you eat as long as you eat NOW kind of days we ended up back at Alfredo's & couldn't believe the improvement! Really enjoyed both our meals & service. We go 2-3 times a year & have made this a must do lately.

We are Italian & practically never eat Italian out. While I wouldn't compare this to homemade, I will say everything has been fresh & flavorful. As for the Fett. Alfredo, we have Americanized so many dishes that people forget that true Alfredo "sauce" has NO CREAM - only butter & cheese so if you want something creamy, order something else.

As for the service Alessandro & Maurizio, in particular, get applause for 1). being very attentive, 2). knowing when to engage in conversation & when not to, 3). engaging kids in conversation/telling them about Italy & where they were from, etc.

My oldest chose Alfredo's to have his 11th b-day dinner & was made very much the fuss over. I'm not sure what was the bigger hit, being sung to in Italian by a whole group of servers or the chocolate mousse he got for dessert. He's already talking about that for Sept.

My advice, like I always tell my kids, you'll never know if you like something or not until you try it for yourself.

I totally agree! We are of Italian decent and LOVE Alfredos. We've never had a bad meal there. We would NEVER eat at an Olive Garden (not that there's anything wrong with that!) because there are so many other good Italian restaurants in the New York area, why would we want to eat at a chain?

Anyway, the "Fettucine Alfredo" is the original recipe and, in my opinion, is very good, BUT, everyone has different tastes. Try it....you might like it!

This is how it's meant to be when it's cooked authentically. Fresh parmesan and butter won't make a smooth sauce. Unfortunately people are used to recipes that have been changed to appeal to local tastes, like people that say the food in San Angel isn't Mexican, when what they are used to is Tex Mex. I've had this dish a few times and think the flavour is excellent, to me it's the best pasta dish i've ever had. Someone else in the thread commented that it was oily, it's made from butter and cheese, of course it is.

The food here has always been cooked perfectly and the service great.

I think this is exactly why some people don't like Alfredo's. They are expecting "American Italian" and that is not what this restaurant is all about! Each member of my family LOVES Alfredo's and we are all picky in our own way. (We like Olive Garden, too, but Alfredo's IS exponentially better!)

Well, I am now officially back on the fence! Thanks for your opinions, everyone! I understand the difference between a creamy Alfredo sauce and one made with just cheese and butter, so that helps. I still have 32 days before I can start calling for PS's (or ADR's, or whatever the term of the day happens to be) so I can continue to hem and haw for awhile. Thanks again!

I know how a fettucine sauce is made. The sauce should not be all clumpy which is what we were served, and as I said that noodles were all stuck together. I am glad that others like it, but we are all entitled to our own opinion.

I totally agree with you! Also being from NY with many Italian restaurants and being all Italian, I have to say it is some of the best Italian food I've ever had. It's authentic and delicious!

I remember this Place. was on my first trip to Disney in 1999 with my Brother, Mother and her Sister (my aunt). Food was Good, Prices were high.

The reason I remember it so well is I left my Fanny Pack with over $400 in it.

Thankfully we were there just before closing and one of the staff found it, and we picked it up the next morning with everything in tact.

I've had mixed reviews. I found the food not bad to pretty good. The prices, IMHO were high, even for Disney, based on what you got.

One thing I think EVERYONE here can agree... the location is much better than any Olive Garden I've been to!

Fredo's is our favorite WDW restaurant, we have eaten there every trip since Epcot opened. We have been to Italy (the one in Europe) and to Olive Garden and I didn't care for the food at either place. We have a couple of good mom and pop Italian restaurants here, but our favorite will always be 'Fredo's.

WE LOVE Alfredo's!!! (Me, DH, DD's 16, 14, 10 & 8)!!! We had lunch there last month, late lunch at 2:30. Food: Excellent , Service: Excellent , Atmosphere: Excellent!!!

Our meals included, Fet Alfredo, Chick Parm, Lasagna and spag & Mtbls!! ALL were GREAT!!!

Guess you will have to try it yourself!!! We would definately recommend it!

I don't like Alfredo's or Olive Garden, although I've given Alfredo's several chances. The atmosphere is fun, the waiters charming and handsome, but the food is so-so. The service is erratic, but with those handsome flirtatious waiters, you forget about it. Never again unless I go to Disney with someone who insists on trying it!

I am not italian but I grew up with italians and I am from NYC. I never never eat at Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill. I dont eat pizza from Dominos or Papa Johns either. I only eat at Italian resturants if it is owned and operated by off the boat italians. I am very picky. I have to say that what I remember of Alfredo's was fantastic. I absolutely will go back. But the post about the sauce, I do believe that you are correct, the sauce is authentic and it does taste very different from commercial brands for localized dishes.

We had a similar experience last summer in Disney. My Brother in law is Moroccan and he CAN COOK. He takes us to this resturant in DC Marakesh, When we went to Disney we went to the resturant with the same name. The dishes were just the same but the taste was so different. We had their famous mint tea and it was nothing like my brother in law makes it or how the resturant in DC makes it. We vowed not to go back. But I love the atmosphere.

My family eats there at least twice a year. I have covered the US and nobody has the original reciepe except Alfredo's. I think the reason many people here in the US don't like it is beacuse the "americanized" version has lots of cream and other thing. The origigianl receipe calls for cheese an butter. We went to Alfredo's of Rome web site and got it.

We love Alfredos and pretty much eat here every time we're at Disney. We've always had great service, we love the atmoshpere and we especially love the food. I'd recommend giving it a try!!

Italian: Olive Garden

Pizza: Dominios

Burgers: McDonalds

Mexican: Burrittos 2

All American Dinners: TGI Fridays

Asian: Wok n' Roll

Japanese: Benihahas? Is that what it's called?

Seafood: Long John Silvers



But then, nobody would really know what that the "natives" eat I come from the Cape and have tasted some of the best seafood anywhere in the world (this includes ports around the world that I've visited) and I'm disgusted (well, maybe disappointed) by those that order clam necks, not whole belly clams. On the other hand, I must travel for true italian to Little Italy or for true chinese to Chinatown. So much for living on this little peninsula.

we loved Alfredos and thought food and service was great!!! We had the funniest waiter and it was all around good!!! Sorry some of you had a bad experience there. My family thought it was great!!!

Hmm. Maybe my next thread should be "What mediocre chain would you like to see at Epcot?"

I am still undecided on this whole "table service at Epcot" deal. I tried to talk to DH about it today but he doesn't like to talk about where we are going to eat in four months. We were, however, able to resolve the breakfast issues I was having with Park Fare and Crystal Palace. He even peeked over my shoulder at one point when I told him my thread had more replies, but I don't think he gets the DIS board addiction. Quite sad for him, actually.

To be honest it is unlikely anyone in our family would order fettucine, so the sauce wouldn't be an issue for us. I imagine the menu changes occasionally (maybe seasonally?) so it is possible that some of the menu selections might rotate off before October. That means if I choose something from allears now it might not be an option later. For example, I saw no mention of lasagna on the current menu. (Which might be a change for the better. See page 1.)

Four weeks until I can start making PS's! Or ADR's! Or whatever! Keep those opinions coming!

Being a "real" Italian from the Northeast, I think Alfredo's is gross. And I love the Olive Garden, although that would be considered nothing more than a chain restaurant here. I did not enjoy my lunch there very much at all.
