Is AKL savannah view worth it?

We are normally a value family due to our budget/income. However, next year I am getting a $4100 bonus and have always wanted to stay at AKL. We are going to POP in October, so I priced out a vacation for next October using a guesstimated 40% BB code.

It came out to $4200 for a 7 night stay with base tickets and DDP, arusha view bunk beds.

That's twice what we usually pay for a week at Disney.

What can you tell me about the bunk bed rooms with savannah view? And the whole resort in general? I would love to splurge, but don't won't to be disappointed.

We have an ADR during our upcoming trip at Boma so we can go check out the resort. Will they let us go look at a savannah room if they have any open?

Thanks!
Lisa

I can't imagine going and not staying at a deluxe! I say it is worth it all the way!!!
BUt wait for a discount code... never pay full price for a room at disney world!

Thanks! I will definitely wait for a code. Hopefully the BB offer will be for next year. From what I have been reading, the current one is only for the rest of 2011.

I would try and wait it out for a room discount. I have always wanted to stay at AKL and was finally able to do so this January. We stayed Club Level and it was so nice and relaxing. I loved being able to sit on our balcony and watch the animals whenever I felt like it. I spent a lot of time out there while my hubby took naps. We don't have children and don't like to rush. We woke up every day ay 5:00 am got ready headed to our park of choice and was done but lunch time everyday. Except the day we did MK b/c we did the Keys to the Kingdom tour and after that we toured the rest of the park and left at 3:45 pm.

I will admit that now that I have stayed at a Deluxe Resort I don't want to stay at anything but a Deluxe Resort! AKL is a great resort. It is very quiet and relaxing. It is a little further out than all the resorts but I think that just helps with the themeing of feeling like you are in Africa! AK is very close to the resort while the other parks are about a 20 to 25 minutes bus ride. They only thing I didn't like was there wasn't a lot of options at the Quick Service restaurant "The Mara" like there are at the vaule resorts. But that's not a big deal. Oh and I hate to admit that the bed was very uncomfortable. We got a room with a King bed and the mattress was hard as a rock! But it didn't keep me from sleeping like a baby. I just had a little bit of back pain in the morning.

I can understand you second guessing spending the extra money. But in my case I justified it b/c I knew my hubby and I were going to be spending a lot of time relaxing at the resort. But if you and your family are going to be at the parks all day. It maybe best to stick with vaule so you don't feel like you are wasting your money by not actually spending time at AKL. Instead you can take your bonus and have 2 Disney trips instead of one. Or you can stay at a vaule and do some extra's that you normally wouldn't do like a character meal, a special tour, bitto bootit boutique, the pirates league, a fireworks cruise, etc. Or if you really want to expereince AKL you might want to look into doing a split stay. I know it might be a little stressful or annoying to have to change resorts but that way you can stay at AKL a couple of nights and stay at a vaule the rest of your stay.

Hope that helps :goodvibes

If money is no object, go for it. personally I think that there are enough places to get a fantastic view of the animals from within the common areas in the lodge that I couldn't justify paying that much extra to have the view in my room.

These are some great ideas! I really like the one of 2 Disney trips instead of one.
