Is adding Disney characters to IASW really that bad?

I did smile a little, what I didn't understand the "changing the song" reference. A close friend who went to Disneyland Hong Kong said in THAT IASW, the song does change languages in different parts. All the pics we have in this thread come from Hong Kong and yes the languages change but not the song. She had to ride it several times to find all the additions to the ride.

I also got a little confused by the "changing the song" comment. Not sure where that comes from. They aren't putting movie thmes in there.:confused3

I just shook my head at the "tinkering with world peace" thing. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it's in the same ballpark as listening to folks complain that people who are in wheelchairs really want to inconvenience everyone else because things have to change (to help them). If that seems out of left field, then listen to last week's discussion podcast for the references... :sad2:

Huh, I wouldn't say that either, you've obviously never met my kids. LOL And yes, they are typical kids but they love love love Leota so I'm sure if they saw a toy they'd have to have it. LOL

Uh yeah, I've never met any of you. :p lol. And you know what, I wouldn't consider your kids to be typical, I think that they're just huge Disney lovers bc not every kid would want a Leota toy. I'd consider a typical kid to want Mickey or Cinderella. When I was 12, my mom gave me a Phineas beanie bc he was my favorite hitchicking ghost. So not all kids are the same, I'm just saying your "typical" everyday kid might not care about the true meaning of the ride and just think that the ride is fun and has cool "everyday" Disney characters.

And don't forget the mini-snowglobe!:goodvibes There is an adorable mini-IASW snowglobe sold around DLR. Actually there used to be a fantastic regular-sized IASW snowglobe back in the '90s, which my friend gave to her dad....and it promptly broke in the 1994 Northridge quake, and was never sold at DLR again.

I have that big one ! It is cool as the boats on the bottom circle the snowglobe, and there is a topiary elephant on the very top ! Sorry your friend's broke.

Nancy it was not I who was disputing the toy theory...was just telling them that it was previously mentioned on this thread. I think the additions are cute and welcome them :)

Hey Krissy - I knew that. I was using your comment as a starting place, to verify it with more info and then run with it. Sorry you might have not picked that up right away. We can always write our posts better with hindsight. I should have started it with "Krissy is right, as usual!" This is......

I know you had my back, girl!:thumbsup2

The song in the Hong Kong version does indeed "change" to a movie song when you pass by a part with a character (Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo, When You Wish Upon a Star, A Whole New World, etc.). Maybe "change" isn't the right word, but perhaps "integrated". They say it's subtle, but I personally find it to be glaringly obvious and distracting. Probably even more so when you're actually on the ride since the audio quality on a ridethrough video isn't so great. Here's a video so you can judge for yourself:

That is the one, Judy! And it played the song, too, I think, didn't it? I was with my friend when she bought the IASW globe in DL in the '90s (I want to say, maybe 1994-ish?), and she so carefully packed it and took it home and gave it to her dad, only to have it break into pieces during the horrible Northridge quake. And of course, now it is impossible to find it anywhere, even on eBay. But it was really cool. I wish I had gotten it for myself! I think those of us in quake-prone California are taking a big risk getting snowglobes (...she says, as she glances at her display table filled with dozens of snowglobes just waiting for the next Big One!....).

I do like the cute little mini IASW globe that is sold now in the parks, with the little children around the base of it.

You are right of course, we haven't met, we should remedy that. :)
And you have a great point, very spot on. :) My 12 y.o. has a favorite Princess, Belle, but she also loves anything to do with HM. And of course my 9 y.o. loves Cinderella but she too loves the HM, especially the NBC overlay. :) I guess you could say they are "typical Disney kids" LOL

Hey I have that Snow globe, too!

I bought it from the now-defunct Disney Catalog in around 2001-2003!
