Is a solo trip a silly idea?

My family and I (then DH and DD's aged 3 and 6) visited Disneyland about 2/1/2 years ago. We all loved it and it was so special to see how much the girls enjoyed it, especially meeting the chatacters.

We are planning another trip in about 3 years, as we now have a son who is 1 and we want to wait until he's a little older - mainly as we're Australian and it would be a horror 14 hr flight with an active toddler, and also he will enjoy the rides etc more when he's older. Also we need that long to save up!! (especially as DH wants to stay at the Grand Californian).

However I feel like I can't wait that long!! The girls are going to Thailand with their grandparents for a couple of weeks in January and I want to go somewhere by myself...I keep thinking about doing a solo Disney trip, but don't know if I would be lonely there by myself, and feeling let down my family isn't enjoying it with me? I can think of lots of positives but am hoping the negatives won't outweigh these. Does anyone have any thoughts?

People post here quite often about doing solo trips. If you do a search I am sure you could find these threads. I would LOVE to do a solo trip, I think you should go for it! :goodvibes

You'll have a great time solo! I'm thinking about taking a solo trip to DL myself next April. Take tons of pics and get the kids looking forward to their next trip to DL.

Disneyland is fantastic solo! I've done it twice myself and usually end up going off on my own even when I'm with a group because it's just my favorite way to do things. There's no time wasted bickering over where to go next - you're free as a bird to do what you want. There are a few rides that offer Single Rider lines (like Indiana Jones - I used that line a lot my last trip). My summer is shaping up to be a solo trip and I don't mind one bit about being on my own. It would just be great if I could afford a solo trip at this point.

Do it! It's a whole different experience.

YES you will miss your kids. But you will also gain an appreciation for the things you can't/don't see when you're with other people.

There's something lovely about heading one way, changing your mind, and (after checking to make sure you're not about to mow over a child, person in a wheelchair, or anyone else) then make a u-turn or sideways turn to go off to the other place that caught your fancy, without having to check with or for people about it!

Going to Disneyland solo is not that bad. I have went so many time alone and I started discovering new things to do that my friends were not open to doing. You will find yourself in line talking to people you dont even know.

Well, somehow today I offered to take my 8 year old niece! It seems like more fun having someone else there with me, especially a child on their first visit. So waiting for my sister to talk it over with her husband. If my niece doesn't end up coming with me then I still think I will go by myself, I don't want to wait an extra 2 years!

I just got back from a solo trip and I loved it!
The best part about it is you get to do what you want when you want.
Usually when I go with a bunch of people there tends to be lots of arguing about "We are not going on that ride" or "I'm hungry, lets eat" and all that kind of stuff.

Where as when I go I just like to have a snack and go and when I go with people they always want to go in a sitdown resturant and have a full on meal (which I think wastes time)

I would say do the solo trip!
I think I enjoyed going alone more than I enjoyed going with people.

There are actually quite a few regulars - me for one - (people who visit as much as 300 times/year) who come by themselves. They are never alone, because they know other regulars and a number of Cast Members. You might want to connect with them, and arrange to meet when you are there.

And if you just come by yourself, it is still the friendliest place in the world - easy to make new friends with other guests and with Cast Members. Just smile, make eye contact, and say Hi.

I've been to DL solo many times -- most recently about a month ago. It's always a great time. I recommend it highly. Sometimes when I go other places by myself I can feel a little lonely. But I've never felt that way at DL by myself. Not once.

I too have many solo trips under my belt. I truly would rather be with friends or Family, but it does not always work out that way. Eating alone can be lonely. Especially if you have a family with children near by. But with that said I love to saunter, and not be on any schedule, except what I plan to do. It really is fun, and you really never feel alone at Disneyland. :tink:
