Is a Dole Whip...

The Dole Whips they sell there are in three flavors: pineapple, vanilla and chocolate. They can make a float with it by putting it in the juice.

Why do they call the plain vanilla and chocolate a dole whip? Wouldn't that be just a regular soft serve ice cream? Just curious.

I'm pretty sure the true Dole Whip is just the pineapple ice cream, BUT it is heavenly when swirled with the vanilla. So perhaps that's why they also serve the other flavors. (Plus, there are some crazy people out there who don't like pineapple. So maybe it's there for them too. )

"whip" is the word they use for all 3 flavors because they can not call it soft-serve ice cream...it's a non-dairy frozen confection so they can't even use the word ice cream at all.

So it's pineapple whip, vanilla whip and chocolate whip (or combos of flavors for "swirls")

If you think the Dole whip float is too much pineapple, try it with vanilla whip & pineapple juice...very good combination, too.

Wow, more sugar, syrup, and hydrogenated oil than I expected. I had planned on ordering one but I may have to convince my hubby to order one and eat a couple bites of his. I've been trying to eat only things in their natural state. Dole Whip is farrrrrrrrr from it. Oh well, too bad.

If you have an ice cream maker you can make your own Dole Whip...actually a much healthier version. I use pineapple juice, sugar, milk and cream...but I think next time I'll leave out the cream. I also add lemon juice to cut the sweetness of the pineapple. You can google the recipe.

I think the Dole Whip Float is great on a hot humid day, but otherwise, I don't get the fanatacism about them. To me, a Dole Whip is nothing more than a glorified soft serve pineapple sherbet. Nothing more. I can get pineapple sherbet anywhere. I did read somewhere on here a few years back that someone LOVED to get a float made of pineapple juice and chocolate soft serve....hhmmmm....might not be bad.

Because Dole makes all of the whips, and they come in more flavors than just pineapple. It is all soft serve.
