I would love to get married at Disney but I'm worried people will think I'm being cheesy or tacky.

What does everyone think? Honest answers please.

Thanks! :)

Considering it's DisBoards, I expect your poll responses will be slightly skewed. ;)

FWIW, we got married at Shades of Green resort and had our wedding lunch at the Wave. And we (and our guests) got to spend a lot of time playing in the parks. It was great. It was not truly a Disney wedding. It was a wedding at Disney.

Two reasons we didn't really consider a Disney wedding. Too much money and not our style. But I can totally see how it's perfect for some people.

And I'm sure you're about to hear this in a bunch of responses... You should not care what other people think. It is your wedding day. Of all the days in your life to do your own thing, this is it. Whatever makes you and your future spouse happy, is the way to go.

And Congratulations! Whatever you decide, just make sure you two have a wonderful day! :bride: :groom:

Honestly, my answer is no. However, in the end it is your call. The only opinion that matters is yours. When I was originally planning a DFTW, most of my family and friends were supportive. I think I had one or two friends that thought it was lame, but they weren't good friends really in the end. I only changed locations in the end due to cost.

As the above poster said, asking this question here you will get hardly any if any yes answers to your poll. We are all Dis Brides or Dis Addicts. I am having a Disney wedding, and deff. don't think it is cheesy or tacky... although some of my guests might, but again agreeing with what has already been said... I don't really care if anyone else thinks that. It is our day and this is what we want.

That being said... I do think going over the top Disney is a little cheesy... not really tacky though. This is just my opinion and I know some brides have had beautiful weddings that were VERY Disney. I personally am not a fan of the carriage, Major Domo carrying the rings down the aisle, dressing up like Cinderella and prince charming or bridal party dressing up like princesses... just a little too much for me personally.

We are getting married at the WP which is gorgeous and not "Disney" themed at all. Then we are having our cocktail hour at the GF again not your typical "Disney" theme, and our reception at ADH. We will have the characters and be adding a few Disney touches, but you don't have to do that. If you want a wedding at Disney but not a "Disney" wedding, there are a TON of choices. Swan and Dolphin also does weddings that are not "Disney" and are much cheaper, so you could look into that. There are so many choices, you could deff. do something in Disney without going over the top "Disney".

I think at some point everyone getting married at Disney gets some odd looks or comments about Mickey being the best man. I know I did! But as I went on to talk about the wedding, and now have the opportunity to show pictures of it, they are always shocked at how beautiful it is and how unlike what they pictured. You can go full out Disney themed, but most of us don't. I had a wedding there because I know how organized they are, the quality of food, the wedding planner they give you, the ease of finding a hotel and things to do for the guests, and everything else that goes with the experience of doing thousands of weddings a year. Because of all of that, I was able to have a beautiful 1930s themed wedding where I didn't have to worry about anything going wrong and where all of my guests left saying it was the best wedding they'd been to!

Honestly, I don't think it's cheese or tacky in the least. I think every woman in some fashion when they were a little girl dreamed of having the classic Cinderella fairytale wedding. I know I did. But know that whereever you have your wedding, whether it be at WDW or in your own back yard, you can make it your own fairytale dream come true...(too sappy?:confused3...I mean every word of it. but I'm a hopeless romantic.) This will be something you remember so make sure that you do it because it's what you want, not because it's the "it" thing.

Thanks for your replies ladies! I feel better already! Disney weddings just look amazing. We would have our ceremony at the WP as I love the sand and palm trees.

Can anyone suggest private wedding reception venues?

And also, how much is the dessert party at Epcot? I can't get hold of Disney to ask.

Thanks! :)

Considering all, if not most, of us either are having a disney wedding or at least a disney honeymoon, I doubt you'll get a yes response. If you want a disney wedding, then do for it. Check out Carly's blog or Carrie's book, or even the PJs/Trip Reports, to find out how your Disney wedding could be whatever you want it to be...either classy and elegant or cheesy or tacky (hey what's NOT tacky to you, may be to guests, and vice versa) or somewhere in between. Like many of the OPs stated, do what YOU want, it's YOUR wedding. Who cares what others think! Whatever you do I'm sure you'll find fans and those who scoff at it. But if you ever need support, you'll definitely find it here.

A lot of people are Disney haters but disney weddings are beautiful and classy. I don't think I have ever seen a tacky wedding here and I've been on the boards for 2 years now

I think that when planning a disney wedding we come across two types of people -- those that think everything disney is cheesy/childish/tacky and those that "get it." A lot of people hear a disney weddng and assume it is a cinderella/princess wedding. When I suspect I'm talking to those people, I just mention a Florida wedding because truthfully, I don't care what they think and don't want to bother being on the defensive about my wedding.

Between trolling these boards and the amazing assistance of Disney's wedding team, I can't imagine a better way to plan a wedding.

Back to the people that "get it" -- those are actually the people I want to be at my wedding anyway :)

I think it depends... some Disney weddings are beautiful and I've seen some that are tacky... it's all a matter of opinion.

I agree with all the above posts, I'm not a fan of the whole princess thing, but each to their own. Have a look at tackyweddings.com if you want to see a tacky wedding!

I get all the jokes about mickey being your best man etc, were having a simple nondisney themed garden wedding with a private lunch and illuminations dessert party. If I am honest the dessert party is why we wanted to get married at wdw as it is such a unique event you can hold for your guests.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! :lmao:

Sorry, just couldn't believe you'd post that question here!

I think the only weddings that don't work are when they don't suit the couple, so if you love Disney, and want an amazing wedding with fabulous photos and by all accounts much less stress than having it anywhere else then a DFTW is for you, and it's certainly not cheesy or tacky!

PS
I am VERY surprised that your poll got even 1 in the yes category - bearing in mind this is a board about Disney weddings :confused3

there are heaps of places for a private reception. Depending on how many guests you're going to have.

Desert parties can cost different amounts, because different locations have different minimums, and it depends on how many people you have and what you serve and that sort of thing.

Most of us here would recommend you get Lurkyloo's passporter book. It's really helpful to get you started before you've been in touch with a coordinator or planner. I'm sure the link to it would be around here somewhere.

Hi

Sorry for all my questions. Disney won't help me at the moment as my wedding is a bit more than a year away. :)

How do I get hold of a passporter book?

Thanks!

My sister did a wedding on the Disney Magic. It was beautiful and romantic. She originally planned to get married at Castaway Cay but due to a hurricane could not. Disney arranged for the Captain to do the vows on board and all the characters that she liked were in attendance and her photos are spectacular. There was nothing cheesy about it. You can have as much or as little Disney as you want.
