We like to travel different times of the year. Late April into May, September and end of November into December. Would a December UY benefit us? I tried to look at other threads regarding this but for some reason I still cant figure it out:confused3

Your travel plans span a lot of the year, so you probably wouldn't go wrong with any particular Use Year. This matters if you think that there's a risk of having to cancel vacations on short notice and if that's the case, I would choose a March UY or September UY if available. As you can see below, the difference is that with December UY you would have to cancel vacations at some of your preferred travel times a little earlier or have a little shorter period of time to use your points than with other UYs; it may never be an issue if you don't cancel vacations.

With a December UY, you would have to bank points by July 31, after which you could no longer bank points and would need to use the remaining points by December 1. So if you cancel Sept or Nov vacations after July 31, you could not bank your points and would have to use them before Dec 1. If you cancel your Dec or April/May vacations, you would have months to bank your points and all the way to Nov. 31 to use your points.

With a March UY, you would have to bank points by Oct. 31. If you cancel Nov.-Dec vacations after Oct. 31 you could not bank your points, but at least you would have until Feb. 28 to use them. If you cancel your April/May or Sept. vacations, you can bank points, or use them by February 28.

With a September UY, you would have to bank points by March 31. If you cancel your April-May vacations after March 31, you couldn't bank your points but you have until Aug. 31 to use them. If you cancel your Sept or Nov-Dec vacations, you can bank your points or you could use the points up to August 31.

I hope this helps.

For a September UY you have until APRIL 30 to bank points (not March 31); just wanted to point this out to the OP in case they are leaning towards September UY.

Excellent explanation 4Pluto :thumbsup2 on picking a UY that works best based on vacation habits; we've got friends considering buying DVC that we're gathering info for & we're going to include your post.

We are DEC UY partial; first because it is the UY we have, and secondly it's only one month different than the calendar. It makes it simple and easy for us to track. We travel up to the last week of July, corresponding with our UY banking deadline. That's not by design, but the way we travel and the UY we were given. It also works well for us when we choose to travel during Christmas/New Years. We are in the first month of our new UY, so there isn't any borrowing of points to make that reservation. So IMHO DEC UY is great, but I will admit my opinion is partial!:dance3:

We are looking into buying at Disney, we vacation almost exclusivly during the month of SEP. Kids are back to school so its pretty quite. What would be our best UY if we traveled mostly in SEPT-OCT time frame. 2. I'm looking at getting a settlement from my company for a retirement account. Should I concider using some of it to secure a DCV membership, knowing that secures my vacation for years to come. All help and thoughts would be appricaited. Thanks for your time in advance.

Chuck
