Is a cell phone a popularity meter?

My cell phone rings all the time but it usually just my dh or my dd wanting to ask a quick question or tell me something (like "I won't be home for dinner" or "I'm running to the grocery, do you need anything?") It's a wonderful thing to have and it makes life much easier for me.

You are no dope, Katholyn :). You are like me - you are prepared ::yes::.

Over here it is illegal now to be holding your phone whilst driving. You can talk on the phone with a hands free kit but not actually hold the phone. Is that the case in any US states too?

This law goes into effect in New Jersey on July 1st.

I hope it goes into effect here soon! I have been run off the road so many times by people on their cell phones!

what get's me is when you see all the "thugs" walking around the mall on Saturday Night talking or pretending to talk on cell phone. It's obvious they think they're impressing everybody.

Also find it annoying at the volume level most folks speak when using their cell phone. HELLO! HEY MAN WHAT'S UP? NOTHING, JUST BUYING SOME MILK. LATER. Remember, the reason we have phones is to communicate with each other at a distance WITHOUT having to shout, bang drums, send smoke signals, etc.
Please do us all a favor and speak in a normal voice.

The main reason DH and I have cells is for long distance calls. None of our family lives near us so it really cut down on the land line bill. Now we only have local calling on it and use the cell for everything else.

I use mine a lot, mostly in the car, always with an earpiece/handsfree. Also, at home, it is the only phone I answer, the house phone is never for me. If nobody picks up, everyone has their own mailbox, so I ignore that one. Annoying to me are all the loud, innane ringtones that are the 'in' thing now. I have mine on silent vibrate 'ring'. Also, as Steve mention, talking so LOUD. It's a phone, not an orange juice can.

LOL
I work at an Elementary school and lots of our latch key kids have phones at 10 or 11 years old. I am glad they at least have some contact with adults.

Around my house we use cell phones to call my son to dinner sometimes. We use them all the time. With three kids going three ways most of the time it is a wonderful tool for keeping track. I also like that I always know where my kids are and who they are with. I randomly call my oldest when he is out with friends. Not only am I closer to him, but I am way more involved with his life. I even talked to one of his friends when he got dumped the night of his prom. Poor kid.

We also use text messaging all the time.

we have 2 cells that technically belong to the bizz but we , since the accident use them miostly so dw and i stay in touch , since i cannot drive we keep one phone with her at all times and i keep theother, that way we can communicate when i am in hospital, or when we are at drs appointments, we can call home and vise verdsa to let family know what dr say,, instead of htem waiting the extra 3 to 5 hours for us to get home, we also use them so that dd can get us if she has problems. and yeah every now and then we do use them for work erlated calls,,lol,, before my wreck 95 % of htecalls on my phone were to hardware stores and 75 % of dws were to my phone,, now its phone to phone to home

I use my cell phone all the time - it's my lifeline. I travel weekly and anyone can reach me no matter where I am. We have two phones on our plan, so that when we talk to each other on the cells, the minutes don't count.

I also use it in the car a lot. My phone is off when I'm with clients, and of course I can't use it on flights, so I often have to return a lot of calls on my way too/from airports. I stick with handsfree in the car, but I never use the handsfree device walking around, I feel silly. Many cities and some states have laws against using the phone (unless handsfree) but not all.

I was in the UK over Christmas this year and I really did notice, everyone has a cell phone, and everyone uses theirs everywhere. I also noticed they seemed ahead (in terms of bells and whistles) of what we get in the US. Most relatives were surprised our cell phone service didn't work over there because their phone service plans work when they come to the US.

I have a cell phone but hate them. I use it only as a last resort.

What really bugs me about them is that when I am in a meeting or conversation with another person, face to face, about work-related matters, the phone rings and that caller jumps ahead of me. Incoming phone calls get a higher priority than a live conversation! ICK!

And people driving and talking on phones (even if it is illegal) really bugs me!

I'd rarely talk to my husband without mine. Our schedules
are opposing. He runs his business from his while he's working.
